Matthew Earle and Tim Hammes tabbed as ITA All-Americans

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Washburn men's tennis was recognized with ITA All-American awards from a pair of players as the duo of Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle earned All-American honors in doubles while Hammes also achieved the status in singles competition.  

To be named an ITA All-American, student-athletes must finish in the top-20 in singles and in the top-10 in doubles in the final ITA rankings of the season. 

In the final ITA rankings of the year Earle and Hammes moved up the No. 5 in the nation, the pair's highest ranking of the season. The duo went 9-2 together this season, all coming from No. 1, while going 5-2 against nationally ranked opponents. They went 3-0 against MIAA/GAC competition to earn All-MIAA honorable mention honors at No. 1 doubles.  

For the season Hammes went 22-12 in singles while Earle posted a 16-9 mark. The honor is the first on the doubles side for both Ichabods.  

Tim Hammes claims a second All-American honor in 2024, earning the distinction in singles after being ranked No. 8 nationally in the final ITA poll.  

The junior went 19-8 on the year with an 11-6 record from No. 1. He went 3-1 inside the conference earning All-MIAA/GAC second team honors at No. 1. Hammes finished the season winning seven of his last ten duals and was 5-4 on the year against nationally ranked opponents.  

Hammes repeats as a singles All-American after earning the honor in 2023 as well.  

Washburn finished the 2023-24 season with a 20-5 record and a second straight MIAA/GAC Tournament Championship after going 5-0 inside the conference during the regular season. They advanced to the NCAA National Tournament Round of 16 for a second straight season.
