KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the second straight week Washburn men's tennis receives the MIAA/GAC North Division Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as Tim Hammes earns the honor announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Tim Hammes helped the No. 8 Ichabods to a 7-0 sweep of No. 19 Midwestern State last week in its home-opener. The senior teamed with Matthew Earle and won 7-6(6) at No. 1 doubles to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles Hammes won 7-5 and 6-1 sets at No. 1 over Filip Vacula of the Mustangs to set up match point in the eventual sweep.
Washburn qualified for the ITA Indoor Championships for the first time in program history and will begin the tournament on Friday, Feb. 14 taking on Saint Leo in Indianapolis, In. at 10 a.m.
