BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Washburn was unable to hold onto an early lead as it fell 3-1 to Lynn in the first game of the South Florida Baseball Jamboree. The Ichabods return to the field on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Palm Beach Atlantic
Caden Bressler got the start for the Ichabods (1-4) and tossed a scoreless first two innings, allowing just one hit. In the top of the third Blake Scott led off with a walk, moved to second on a walk by Payton McHarg and both were able to advance on a double steal. Darian Duhon did the rest, scoring Scott with a two-out single through the left side to go up 1-0.
The score remained that way into the fifth inning. The Fighting Knights (3-2) got two out with nobody on but Washburn was able to turn a double play and Bressler forced a pop fly into foul territory to get out of the potential jam.
In the sixth inning Lynn got a single and double followed by a walk to load the bases with one out. A triple into right field cleared the bases to make it 3-1. Griffin Huiatt got the final out of the inning to strand the runner at third.
Huiatt remained in the game and faced the minimum over the final two innings, striking out a pair. The Washburn offense was able to manage just one hit, a double by Easton Bruce in the ninth, the rest of the way as the Fighting Knights held on to win.
The Ichabods tallied five hits in the game to just four for the home team. They also worked four walks while Lynn only had three free passes.
Bressler and Huiatt combined to throw all eight innings for Wsahburn, striking out four total. At the plate Connor Scott was the only player for Washburn to reach twice, going 1-3 with a walk.
