KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For a third time this season, Tim Hammes was named the MIAA/GAC North Division Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon by the conference. It is the seventh time the Ichabods have claimed the award this season.
Tim Hammes went 2-0 last week while helping No. 7 Washburn to a 6-1 home win over No. 40 Emporia State. In doubles play Hammes and Matthew Earle teamed up to win 6-1 at the No. 1 position over Emporia's No. 45-ranked Gwendal Mazuay and Alexis Mattenberger. In singles action, Hammes defeated No. 19-ranked Anton Sarunic in three sets at No. 1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Washburn will be back in action this weekend on the road facing No. 49 Northwest Missouri State at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.
