KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tim Hammes has been named the MIAA/GAC North Division Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the fourth time overall and the second week in a row. Washburn takes home the weekly award for an eighth time this season in the final week of awards.
Tim Hammes went 4-0 on the week combined at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in MIAA North Division wins over Northwest Missouri (5-0) and Newman (7-0). Against the Bearcats, Hammes and Matthew Earle earned a 6-0 win to begin the match. The senior from Krefeld, Germany, then defeated No. 21-ranked Dominik Wijntjes in two sets, 6-2, 6-1 on the top court to help clinch the road victory for the Ichabods. Against the Jets, he and Earle won 6-2 in doubles and before he defeated Ali Mounir 6-4 and 6-3 in singles, helping No. 7 Washburn to the sweep.
The Ichabods wrap up the regular season this Saturday, April 26 against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1 p.m.
