PUEBLO, Colo. – The Washburn Ichabods men's and women's track and field team picked up one all-American on the opening day of the NCAA Championships on Thursday. Action continues on Friday for the Ichabods.
Matteo Madrassi earned second-team all-American honors in the men's pole vault after finishing ninth with a height of 5.12m (16-09.50).
Adam Wooldridge finished in 17th after clearing 4.97m (16-03.50).
Nairui Krein is ninth in the heptathlon after four events. Krein has 3,107 points, 485 points behind the leader, with three events remaining starting on Friday. Krein finished ninth in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.58. She then placed 12th in the high jump, clearing 1.57m, and then followed with her best finish of the day placing third in the shot put at 13.08m. Krein wrapped up the day finishing 14th in the 200m in a time of 26.26.
Paola Castaldi finished 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.17m (177-08) with her top throw coming on the first attempt.
The 4x100m relay team of
Ta'Mijha Nichols,
Alyssa Hutcherson,
Maya Pattison and
McKenzie Hayse – the first Washburn relay team to qualify for nationals - finished 13th in a time of 45.48 in a preliminary round.
Kereser Augustin recorded a time of 54.48m in the 400m prelims.
Competing in her second event of the day,
Ta'Mijha Nichols finished 18th in the 100m prelims in a time of 11.54.
In the opening round of the 3000m steeplechase,
Eve Weber placed 19th overall in a time of 11.23.19.
In action for the Ichabods on Friday will be
Ilaria Villa in the discus at 3 pm CST and
Justin Forde and
Ransford Nti in the triple jump at 6:05 pm in day two of the NCAA Championships.
