Washburn men's tennis ranked No. 5 in end of season ITA rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's tennis team finishes its season ranked No. 5 in the final ITA rankings of the season released by the organization on Friday afternoon. The squad had a pair of doubles teams ranked along with three players on the single side.  

Washburn finished its historic season as national finalists with a 23-4 record, a program high mark in victories. They won a third straight MIAA/GAC Tournament Championship defeating Ouachita Baptist 4-0 before winning 4-0 over Southern Arkansas in the Central Region Championship.  

Wins over Concordia University Irvine, Barry and UT Tyler sent them to the National Championship match at the NCAA National Championship tournament.  

Finishing at the top of the final rankings was the national champion Valdosta State. They were followed by West Florida, Barry and Flagler respectively. Around the conference Harding finishes at No. 21, Ouachita Baptist at No. 25 and Nebraska Kearney at No. 40. Behind them are No. 41 Southern Arkansas and Northwest Missouri at No. 48.  

On the singles side of rankings is Tim Hammes at No. 3. Not too far behind is Vasek Schneider, who finishes at a season-high ranking of No. 5. Pavlos Parson remains in the final rankings of the season at No. 52.  

In doubles, Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle move to No. 3 in the nation while Tommy Cecchetti and Vasek Schneider rank No. 18 to end the season.
