TEMPE, Ariz. -- Three players from national finalist Washburn men's tennis were named ITA All-Americans on Tuesday morning by the organization. Tim Hammes and Vasek Schneider were each named ITA Singles All-Americans while Hammes also collected the award in doubles along with Matthew Earle.
To be named an ITA All-American, student-athletes must finish in the top-20 in singles and in the top-10 in doubles in the final ITA rankings of the season.
Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle ended the season with a 24-10 record together going 14-9 in duals all coming at No. 1. They posted a 4-4 record against ranked opponents in the spring. In the fall they won the ITA Cup Doubles National Championship, a second year in a row winning the national title for Hammes.
It is the second year in a row that the duo earns ITA All-American honors together.
In singles, Tim Hammes collects his third All-American award of his career. He finished the season going 27-9 overall with a 16-8 record in duals going 15-8 at No. 1. He was 7-7 on the year against ranked opponents. In the fall he went 11-1 in tournaments, including winning the ITA Central Region Singles Championship.
Vasek Schneider also earns ITA Singles All-American honors in his first season with Washburn. The William Woods transfer set a new program record with 32 singles victories going 32-7 on the year. He was 21-3 in duals and 21-2 playing at No. 2. Against ranked opponents he was a perfect 8-0 and won his last 15 matches overall.
It is the second time in the last three seasons that Washburn has three individual players earn All-American honors in either singles or doubles.
