KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Eight student-athletes from the Washburn Ichabod men's tennis team were recognized by the MIAA for their academic achievements on Tuesday afternoon as they were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Washburn also had one student-athlete named as an MIAA Scholar Athlete and another recognized with Academic Excellence honors.

To be named to the Academic Honor Roll the student athlete must have a cumulative grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Earning that distinction from Washburn were: Tommy Cecchetti (Management), Matthew Earle (Kinesiology), Mason Fair (Finance), Graham Faris (Business), Tim Hammes (International Business), Daniel Harkin (Mathematics), Ivan Ivanov (Business) and Moritz Pieper (International Business).

To be recognized as a MIAA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 at the certifying member institution while also earning All-MIAA honors and have at least two terms of grades reported at the member institution.

From the Ichabods, Tim Hammes earned the honor for a fourth straight season after he was named first team All-MIAA/GAC in both singles and doubles as well as the MIAA/GAC Player of the Year.

To earn the Academic Excellence Award a student-athlete must maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA. From Washburn, sophomore Mason Fair earns the honor.

Around the MIAA/GAC there were 61 members of the Academic Honor Roll, with 10 MIAA/GAC Scholar Athletes and just four earning Academic Excellence Award honors.

All freshmen and transfer student athlete award winners will be announced in a separate release later in the month.
