TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's soccer team defeated Fort Hays State 5-1 on Friday night at Yager Stadium.
Washburn improves to 8-1-1 and 4-1 in the MIAA and Fort Hays State falls to 2-7-1 and 0-5 in the MIAA.
Washburn had 29 shots in the match which ties the fifth most in a match in program history, when the Ichabods had 29 shots against Missouri Western Oct. 19, 2007.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fort Hays state struck first in 13
th minute when Lily Marshall found Berkley Sparks for her second goal of the season.
Kate Hinck tied up the match at one in the 18
th minute. Washburn outshot FHSU 13-1 in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net the remainder of the first half.Â
The Ichabods and Tigers were tied at one going into the 74
th minute before
Lydia Keller scored her first goal of the season to give Washburn the 2-1 lead.
Grace Peterson scored shortly after in the 77
th minute to extend the Ichabods lead.
Bricelyn Betts and
Haley Thomsen scored 32 seconds apart from each other to put the game away for Washburn.Â
