KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Washburn Ichabod freshman Nelly Puente has been named the final MIAA Cross Country Athlete of the Week of the season after her top-five finish at the Griffon Open last week. She is the first Ichabod women's cross country to win the athlete of the week award since Sierra Mortensen on Sept. 18, 2018 to earn the weekly honor from the conference.

Puente, who paced the Ichabod women with her 4th-place finish as the highest MIAA finisher at the meet, covered the course in 18:23.9 to lead a group of 10 Washburn runners competing at the Griffon Open.

The Ichabods return to St. Joseph on Nov. 7 for the MIAA Championships.
