DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- No. 9 Washburn fell for the first time this season on Monday afternoon losing a 4-3 five-hour match to No. 5 Embry-Riddle. The Ichabods return to action facing the University of Charleston on Wednesday in Lakeland.
Doubles play began with a quick advantage for the Eagles (11-0) as Peyton Koper and Riko Konno fell 6-0 at No. 3. No. 4 Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro worked a 6-3 win on the top court to even doubles play up. Jasel Bailey and Saajida Razick won the final two games of their dual at No. 3 to win 6-4 and take the first point of the match for Washburn (3-1)
Embry-Riddle evened up the match to begin singles play with Jasel Bailey falling 6-2 and 6-1 in two sets at No. 4. No. 48 Daniela Tijaro lost a pair of 6-1 sets on court three as the Eagles went in front. No. 40 Riko Konno pulled away late to win 7-5 in her first set at No. 2 and went on to win 6-4 in the second to even the match back up.
No. 14 Renske Ubachs took a first-set tiebreaker 7-6(5) playing at No. 1. She put the Ichabods back in the lead with a 6-3 win in the second set. Embry-Riddle tied the match once again, winning in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2, over Charlotte Bair at No. 6. On court five Saajida Razick lost 6-3 in her opening set but bounced back to win a 7-6(5) tiebreaker in the second. She fell behind early in the third and couldn't recover, losing 6-2 to close out the match.
