KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Washburn women's basketball had ten players recognized by the MIAA for their academic success being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday morning by the conference. Additionally, both Payton Sterk and Gabi Giovannetti were recognized as MIAA Scholar Athletes.
To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 or above at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
The Ichabods earning the honor were: Madelyn Amekporfor (Marketing), Willow Gideon (Marketing), Brooke Gomez (AL-Medical Imaging), Gabi Giovannetti (Health Services Administration), Cloie Jansky (Marketing), Lauren Luebbert (Data Analytics), Nia McKenzie (Psychology), Yiibari Nwidadah (Biology), Payton Sterk (Kinesiology) and Aniah Wayne (Kinesiology).
In the classroom, a Scholar-Athlete is an individual who has a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 or better at the certifying member institution and has at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution. Student-athletes must also receive All-MIAA honors in the current season to achieve the full Scholar-Athlete status.
Both Gabi Giovannetti and Payton Sterk earned the honor this season, Sterk for a second consecutive season and Giovannetti for the first time in her career.
Overall 85 student-athletes in the conference were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, 11 earned Scholar-Athlete honors and 15 received Academic Excellence recognition with 4.0 cumulative GPA's.
These 2025-26 women's basketball academic awards do not include first year student-athletes or first-year transfers. The MIAA will release separate academic awards for its 2025-26 newcomers in June, once the student-athletes have completed at least two terms of attendance at the certifying MIAA member institution.
