Washburn claims POTY and COTY with five Ichabods earning All-MIAA/GAC honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Five players along with head coach Kirby Ronning were recognized as All-MIAA/GAC honorees by the conference on Tuesday morning. Pavlos Parson received Player of the Year honors for the conference while Kirby Ronning was named Coach of the Year.  

Head coach Kirby Ronning earns Coach of the Year honors for a third straight season on the men's side guiding the Ichabods to a 15-5 record overall with a 5-0 mark inside the MIAA/GAC North Division while also going unbeaten against South Division opponents. The award is Ronning's fourth Coach of the Year honor combined on both the men's and women's sides.  

Pavlos Parson is named the Player of the Year in the MIAA/GAC after his senior season saw him go 21-12 in singles play and 18-8 in doubles action. In conference duals he went 5-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles. In singles action he is 8-8 on the year at No. 1 and in doubles he has a 9-5 mark at No. 2 while going 2-1 against ranked duos. This is the second straight season Washburn earns POTY honors after Tim Hammes won the award last season.  

In singles play Pavlos Parson is named a first-team selection. He won one match against ranked opponents while going 9-9 on the year in duals. He finished the regular season winning six straight duals and has gone 7-2 over the last ten matches, all on the top two courts.  

On the doubles side Benjamin Fock and Zino Nahirniak are All-MIAA/GAC First-Team selections, both for the first times in their careers. The duo has gone 12-5 together overall this season with a 7-2 mark in duals all at No. 1. They went 3-1 against MIAA/GAC North Division competition and delivered a 3-2 record against ranked opponents. 

Tommy Cecchetti and Pavlos Parson are Second-Team All-MIAA/GAC selections in doubles after going 8-2 together, all in spring duals. They went 7-2 playing on court two and have a 2-1 record against ranked opponents. They have won their last seven times taking the court.  

Kilian Martinez earns All-MIAA/GAC Honorable Mention honors in singles as a freshman after joining in the spring season. He went 13-2 in duals with a 3-1 record against conference opponents. Martinez delivered a 10-1 record from No. 3 while going 4-1 against ranked opponents, the most victories on the team.  

Tommy Cecchetti also earns Honorable Mention honors on the singles side. He is 15-11 overall on the year in singles while going 12-7 in duals. He has a 5-1 record playing at No. 3 and went 3-2 against the MIAA/GAC North. He went 2-4 against nationally ranked opponents and has won his last three duals.  

The Ichabods head to the court as the top seed in the MIAA/GAC Tournament where they will face Northeastern State in the quarterfinal round beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29 in Springfield, Mo.
