TOPEKA, Kan. -- No. 18 Washburn won a second straight home match in as many days sweeping Fort Hays State 7-0 on Wednsday afternoon. They wrap up a three-day stretch of action facing Emporia State on Thursday, April 9 at 11 a.m. on the road.
Renske Ubachs and Peyton Koper began the match with a swift 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Saajida Razick and Jasel Bailey clinched the doubles point for Washburn (12-3, 3-1 MIAA) with a 6-1 win at No. 1. Mariana Silva Balsa and Daniela Tijaro claimed a 6-3 win at No. 2 to make it a sweep for the Ichabods over the Tigers (8-5, 0-3 MIAA) in doubles.
Jasel Bailey led off singles action with quick 6-1 and 6-0 victories at No. 4. Charlotte Bair was close behind, winning by the same scores at No. 6 to bring up match point. Mariana Silva Balsa swept her first set and won 6-2 in the second at No. 5 to clinch the match.
Daniela Tijaro cruised to a 6-1 win in her opening set at No. 2 and worked a 6-3 victory in the second to add another point. No. 23 Renske Ubachs opened with a 6-2 win on the top court and battled to win 7-5 in the second. Saajida Razick completed the sweep with another two-set victory on court three, winning 6-3 and 6-2 sets.
