EMPORIA, Kan. -- No. 18 Washburn got in front early and cruised to a 6-1 win over Emporia State on Thursday morning wrapping up a three day stretch with three matches by winning a third straight match. The Ichabods have a week off before facing Missouri Western at home on Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m.
Jasel Bailey and Saajida Razick led off the match working a quick 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Daniela Tijaro and Mariana Silva Balsa clinched the doubles point for Washburn (13-3, 4-1 MIAA) with a 6-2 win on court two. Renske Ubachs and Peyton Koper came back from a 4-5 deficit, winning the final four games to take a 7-5 victory at No. 3 to sweep doubles.
Playing at No. 6, Charlotte Bair won a two-set match at No. 6 while dropping just one game combined. Mariana Silva Balsa stayed perfect, sweeping two sets at No. 5 to bring up match points. Jasel Bailey cruised to a 6-1 win in set one at No. 4 before working a match-clinching 6-3 win in the second set.
Saajida Razick added another point for the Ichabods winning 6-0 in her first set on court three and 6-4 in the second. No. 23 Renske Ubachs kept Emporia State (8-8, 2-3 MIAA) off the board with 6-2 and 6-1 set victories on the top court. After falling 5-7 in the first set at No. 2, Daniela Tijaro won 6-2 in the second to force a third set. The Hornets were able to get on the board with a 10-5 win in the 10-point tiebreaker third set to wrap up the match.
