KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Washburn baseball's Gavin Wilhelm has been named the final MIAA Pitcher of the week by the conference on Monday afternoon. Wilhelm earns the honor for the first time in his career and is the second Ichabod to be named a conference Player of the Week this season joining Levi Risenhoover who won Hitter of the Week honors.
Gavin Wilhelm took the ball in game three against No. 5 Pittsburg State and tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, the longest outing of the junior's career. He allowed just one hit while walking two and striking out five to help the Ichabods wrap up the regular season with a 5-0 win over the Gorillas.
Washburn heads to the MIAA Tournament as the No. 8 seed where they will face the No. 9 seed Central Oklahoma in the first round of the tournament in Edmond, Okla. on Wednesday, May 6 with first pitch at 4 p.m.
