TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn Ichabod director of golf Ronnie McHenry has announced the addition of Jeff Straight, the director of golf from Winona State since 2018 overseeing both the Warriors' men's and women's golf programs, as an assistant coach for the Ichabod golf programs.

"We are thrilled to hire Jeff Straight as our new assistant golf coach here at Washburn. His resume speaks for itself," McHenry said. "He's been the Central Regional Coach of the Year, a four-time NSIC Coach of the Year, with many NCAA appearances, team and individual tournament wins. Very few, if any, schools have that around their programs, and now we do. Jeff's experience, leadership, and championship mindset make him an outstanding addition to Washburn Golf, and I'm excited to have him join our staff as our Assistant Coach. His experience will have an immediate impact on our student-athletes, and I believe his addition will help elevate Washburn Golf as we continue pursuing conference championships and national success."

Straight joined Winona State as an assistant coach in 2014, then became the head men's golf coach in 2015. In 2018, Straight was promoted to Director of Golf – overseeing both the Warrior men's and women's programs. At Winona State, he recorded a 113-21 record during the 2025-26 season ranking 36th in the nation ranking third in the Central Region recording five tournament wins going undefeated against NSIC and GAC opponents, and earning the Men's Central Region Coach of the Year. The Warriors' women's squad went 71-56 overall qualifying for the NCAA Regionals placing 18th overall.

He has been named the NSIC Coach of the Year four times and led Winona State to NCAA appearances in 9 of 11 years. He's also coached WSU to four NSIC Tournament Championships, including the 2026 title. In 11 seasons directing WSU he recorded a 1,015-383 overall record for the men's team recording 26 tournament titles. The women's team has gone 506-431 the past eight seasons with four tournament wins.

Equally as impressive in the classroom, the men's golf team has had at least a 3.36 GPA the last eight seasons and the women's team has had a 3.60 grade point average or higher in each of the last six seasons with 20 NSIC All-Academic selections.
Straight has coached 11 Myles Brand winners, five NSIC Elite 18 award winners, while coaching 25 NSIC all-conference selections, including four in 2026. He's had six all-region selections and two PING All-America selections as well.

Prior to coaching, Straight played on many high-level amateur and open tournaments while caddying on the PGA, Korn Ferry, Nike and Celebrity Tours.

He lives in Topeka with his wife, Xenia and has two sons, Eric and Austin.
