Setting the Scene:
The Lady Blues return home to face Northwest Missouri (3-9-0, 2-6-0 MIAA) and Truman (9-3-1, 6-1-1 MIAA) in weekend action in Yager Stadium. The Lady Blues enter the weekend with a 6-5-3 overall record and a 4-2-2 mark in conference play. Washburn was ranked tenth in the first NCAA Central Regional poll which was released earlier this week. Truman was tabbed as the No. 4 team in the region. The Lady Blues are currently in fourth place in the MIAA standings with 14 points with six MIAA matches remaining. Only the top four teams qualify for the first postseason conference tournament.
About the Bearcats:
Quick Kicks: The Bearcats suffered a pair of setbacks to Truman, dropping a 2-0 loss at Kirksville, Mo., on Oct. 3 and falling 3-0 at home on Oct. 7. Northwest outshot the Bulldogs 6-0 in the first 20 minutes in the latter game, but couldn't put one through the net.
About NWMSU: The Bearcats are led in scoring by Amanda Deml who has four of the team's 11 goals this season. She also has added three assists.
• Marti Trummer added onto her career assists record, recording her 11th against Missouri Western on Sept. 28. She needs three more assists to tie for 10th in MIAA assist records.
• Amy Jackson converted on her fourth career penalty kick against Missouri Western, standing four-of-four all-time. She is the school career leader with four penalty kick attempts and conversions.
• Amanda Deml needs five shots to move from seventh to fourth in career shots and from eighth to a tie for fourth in season shots. She stands with 83 career shots and 40 shots this season.
About the coach: Head Coach Tracy Hoza is 24-55-10 in her fifth season at the helm of Bearcat soccer. Hoza is the all-time winningest coach in Northwest soccer history with 24 wins.
Hoza took a team that finished with three wins in her first year (2003) to a school record nine wins in 2006 and the best winning percentage in school history.

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The No. 15 Washburn Lady Blues soccer team won a 2-0 decision at Northwest Missouri State on the road in Maryville, Mo. over the Bearcats. Washburn will be back in action as they open a three-match homestand starting with Southwest Baptist on Sept. 27 as they try to regain the NCAA Division II women's soccer attendance record of 2,004, which Central Oklahoma had earlier this season.

Keeley Lambeth scored her third goal of the season on a two-touch pass from
Manon Englehardt via
Jessica Mainz as Washburn took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Washburn was outshot in the first half 6 to 4 by the Bearcats.
In the second half, both teams were held scoreless until the 86th minute when Mainz scored her 11th goal of the season on Englehardt's second assist of the match.

Ashley Klone picked up the shutout win in goal as she picked up six saves in the match.
Washburn took more the aggressor's role in the second half as they attempted nine shots, compared to two for the Bearcats.

About the Bulldogs:
Quick Kicks: Truman is sits just three points back (one win) from the first place Jennies. Central is 7-0-1, while Truman is 6-1-1. The Bulldogs are three points ahead of Southwest Baptist and five in front of Washburn. The top four MIAA teams will play in the first MIAA post-season tournament on the weekend of Nov. 3rd and 4th at the top seeded school's home pitch.
The Bulldogs were ranked fourth in the first NCAA Central region poll that was released on Wednesday. The poll uses most of the selection criteria for NCAA postseason play. The top six teams in the final NCAA poll will be awarded berths into the national tournament. Minnesota State-Mankato and Winona State are tied atop the regional poll with conference leader Central Missouri in third position followed by the Bulldogs and the University of Mary and Northern State. Truman is riding a six-game unbeaten streak and has outscored opponents 18-3 in conference games. Jessica Wiegert leads the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Katelyn Talcott is second with three goals and four assists and Katie Reuck is third with three goals and three assists. Wiegert is just two goals shy of cracking into Truman's all-time scoring list. She has 15 career goals as a sophomore. Talcott is tied for second in the conference in assists per game at 0.32.
About the coach: Mike Cannon is in his 15th season at Truman and is the most successful coach to ever lead the Bulldogs during the last 23 years of the program's existence.
Over the past five seasons, the Bulldogs have compiled a record of 75-17-11 (.752), which is one of the best in NCAA Division II during that period. Cannon's teams have won every MIAA title the conference has offered since 1999 and have been to the post-season four of the previous five seasons.
Last meeting with Truman: Truman 2, #15 Washburn 0 – KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The No. 15 ranked Washburn Lady Blues soccer team was blanked 2-0 by Truman Friday afternoon.
The Lady Blues, who entered the match as the top shooting team in the conference was outshot 15 to 6 by the Bulldogs. Truman scored both of its goals in the first half as Danielle Hill scored on an assist from Isabel Gaeta in the 36th minute and Emily Newsham scored in the 41st minute.
Washburn only attempted three shots on goal in the match - two by

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell 2-1 to No. 13 Metro State in Omaha, Neb., to fall to 6-5-3 on the season. Washburn will be back in action on Friday night in Yager Stadium when they play host to Northwest Missouri at 7 p.m. followed by Truman the following evening at 7 p.m.
The Lady Blues took the early lead 3:30 into the match as
Jessica Mainz scored her 14th goal of the season on a cross from the corner from
Manon Englehardt. The goal set the Washburn single-season goal record and added to her single-season point record of 33 points (14 goals, 5 assists).
Metro State, the defending national champions, tied the score in the 12th minute as Madison McQuilliams scored her ninth goal from Katie Kilbey on a cross. The Roadrunners took the lead for good in the 41st minute when Becca Mays netted her eighth goal of the season on a pass from Linnea Dengah taking a 2-1 lead in the halftime break.
Neither team would score in the second half as Metro took the win.
The Lady Blues outshot the Roadrunners 17 to 6 overall and 12 to 2 in the second half, but they could not convert any of the shot attempts into goals.
It was a physical match as there were 15 fouls called with 10 coming against the Roadrunners. Metro's head coach Danny Sanchez and Gabby Klipp were both ejected in the 56th minute. Sanchez was sent off for language and Klipp was red carded for violent conduct at the 55:27 mark of the second half.

Lady Blues in the National Poll:
The Lady Blues fell out of the Sept. 25 ending their streak of being ranked in 13 straight polls overall dating back to last season. The Lady Blues entered the 2007 season ranked No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association National Preseason Poll which was released the week before the season began. The Lady Blues finished the 2006 season ranked No. 12 in the final poll. Washburn has been ranked in the last 13 national polls earning a ranking as high as No. 9 topping the No. 10 ranking they earned in the final regular season poll of 2006.
Up next: The Lady Blues will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to take on Missouri Western on Oct. 19 and return home to face Central Missouri the following night in Yager Stadium on homecoming after the football game at 7 p.m. The Lady Blues will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Missouri Southern on Oct. 26 and Southwest Baptist on Oct. 27.
