After Washburn and Truman went into halftime tied at 1-1 Saturday night at Yager Stadium, the Lady Blues came out strong in the second half, scoring early and then holding off a late charge by the Bulldogs for a 2-1 win.
The Lady Blues (7-5-4, 5-2-3 MIAA) will continue MIAA play with a match Friday night at Missouri Western.
Manon Englehardt scored the game-winner at 47:48 after she took a pass from
Jessica Mainz in the box, dribbled through the defense and then slid the ball from the right side into an empty net for her fourth of the year.
That shot was the first of nine by the Lady Blues in the second half. They controlled the play through much of the period and then stopped late chances by the Bulldogs.
One of their best chances to tie the score came 10 minutes into the period. Katelyn Talcott received an open-field pass and took a shot 12 yards out that went straight into the hands of WU goalkeeper
Jenny Persons.
The Lady Blues had to come back after giving up a first-half goal at 28:46 to TSU's Katie Reuck on an assist from Jessica Wiegert.
About four minutes later
Ashley Taylor took a corner kick from the right side and sent it to the far post where
Lisa Fahey knocked it in from five yards out for her fourth of the year.
Washburn took 16 shots in the match while Truman managed seven. The Lady Blues put seven shots on goal while TSU put on six. Persons made five saves and picked up her second win of the year.
