Setting the Scene:
The Lady Blues will hit the road for a single game against Missouri Western before returning to Yager Stadium for their final regular season home game of the season when they play host to Central Missouri. The Lady Blues are currently in fifth place in the MIAA standings with 18 points with four MIAA matches remaining. Only the top four teams qualify for the first postseason conference tournament. The Jennies are in first place in the league with 22 points and they are tied with Truman. Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist each have 19 points entering the final two weekends of the action. Saturday's match against the Jennies will be the final one for lone senior
Brie Forman who will be honored before kickoff.
About the Griffons:
Quick Kicks: The Missouri Western Griffons played two games last week going 1-1. The Griffons are now 3-12 on the year and 2-8 in the MIAA. The Griffons opened up play at home against the Missouri Southern Lions on Friday, October 12th. The Griffons spotted the Lions three goals in the first half. In the second half the Griffons held the Lions, but were only able to core one goals as Michelle Polk scored her first goal of the season and the Griffons would lose 3-1. On homecoming Saturday,
October 13th the Griffons game against Southwest Baptist was pushed back to 8:00 pm due to the football games two hour delay earlier. The two teams played scoreless soccer until 1:04 left in the game when Michelle Canovi blasted one home from 20 yards out to score her second goal of the season, which gave the Griffons the 1-0 victory. With the victory coach Jeff Hansen becomes the all-time winningest coach in MWSU history.
About the coach: Jeff Hansen is 4-27-3 in his second year as the Griffons' head coach. Hansen comes to Missouri Western after a two-year stint at Central Missouri State as the assistant women's soccer coach. Hansen also has previous collegiate coaching experience at Missouri Southern State University where he was a student-athlete.

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 9 Washburn Lady Blues got offensive and
Jessica Mainz recorded her second hat trick in the last three games as the Lady Blues blasted Missouri Western 7-1. The seven goals is a new school record for the Lady Blues.
Washburn (4-3-1, 2-1-0 MIAA) took a 2-1 lead into the half as
Danielle Ayala scored on an assist in the seventh minute off an assist from Mainz to put Washburn up 1-0 and Kelley Lambeth scored her second goal of the season in the 25th minute on a double-touch assist from
Ashley Taylor and
Ashley Hynek. Two minutes and three seconds later, the Griffons' (2-6-0, 1-2-0 MIAA) Meigan Soo scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Michelle Polk.
The Lady Blues outshot the Griffons 13 to 1 in the first half.
In the second half it was all Washburn as the Lady Blues scored five unanswered goals in the final 23:02 of the match en route to a new school record for goals in a match with seven.
The scoring started in the 66th minute as
Lisa Fahey scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick from
Ashley Taylor.
Mainz added what would be the first of her three goals on the evening unassisted on a free kick that bent into the left corner in the 79th minute.
Manon Englehardt scored her third goal of the season after driving the left side and scoring from 10 yards out in the 81st minute.
Mainz recorded her second goal on a double-pass assist from
Brie Forman and Taylor in the 85th minute.
Mainz wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute on a cross from Englehardt.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for the Lady Blues.
Washburn outshot the Griffons for the match 29 to 2, including a 16 to 1 advantage in the second half.

About the Jennies:
Quick Kicks: Last two times out: Against Southwest Baptist: The Jennies dropped their first conference game of the season, a 3-2 double overtime loss to Southwest Baptist. The loss also ended the Jennies' 11-game unbeaten streak (9-0-2). The Jennies jumped out to an early lead when Brittany Sharp scored the first goal of her career in the third minute. The Lady Bearcats came right back and tied the game in the eighth minute. SBU took a 2-1 lead late when they scored in the 86th minute, but Hazel Cox responded with a goal of her own less than a minute later to force overtime. SBU scored the game-winner in the 103rd minute. The physical game saw 34 fouls and six yellow cards handed out.
Against Missouri Southern: Looking to rebound from their first conference loss the Jennies suffered another setback, a 2-0 loss to Missouri Southern.
UCM out-shot the Lions 5-1 in the first half, but were unable to get on the board. MSSU took the lead in the 59th minute and added an insurance goal in the 84th minute for the 2-0 win. Hazel Cox led the Jennies offensive attack with four shots. Liz Casey was in net for the Jens and saw her season record dip to 7-2-1.
About the coach: Lewis Theobald is in his first season at the helm of the Jennies soccer program. His career records stands at 9-3-2, 7-2-1 in the MIAA. He spent last season as the first assistant at Division I Indiana State where he was the lead recruiter. He was also in charge of scouting as well as game and player evaluations. He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas.
Last meeting with Truman: #15 Central Missouri 1, #9 Washburn 0 – WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The No. 9 Washburn Lady Blues dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 15 Central Missouri in Warrensburg, snapping their three-match winning streak.
The Lady Blues (3-3-1, 1-1-0 MIAA) outshot the Jennies 8 to 6 and 5 to 3 in the first half, but Central Missouri (4-1-1, 2-0-0 MIAA) scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute as Hazel Cox scored off a corner kick for the winner.
Jessica Mainz and
Ashley Taylor each had two shots and
Danielle Ayala had the only shot on goal for the Lady Blues.
Jenny Persons picked up two saves in goal for Washburn.

Washburn is 42-35-17 (.531) all-time in its fifth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 27-26-13 (.500). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 21-14-7 and they are 15-18-7 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 6-3-3.

After Washburn and Truman went into halftime tied at 1-1 Saturday night at Yager Stadium, the Lady Blues came out strong in the second half, scoring early and then holding off a late charge by the Bulldogs for a 2-1 win.
Manon Englehardt scored the game-winner at 47:48 after she took a pass from
Jessica Mainz in the box, dribbled through the defense and then slid the ball from the right side into an empty net for her fourth of the year.
That shot was the first of nine by the Lady Blues in the second half. They controlled the play through much of the period and then stopped late chances by the Bulldogs.
One of their best chances to tie the score came 10 minutes into the period. Katelyn Talcott received an open-field pass and took a shot 12 yards out that went straight into the hands of WU goalkeeper
Jenny Persons.
The Lady Blues had to come back after giving up a first-half goal at 28:46 to TSU's Katie Reuck on an assist from Jessica Wiegert.
About four minutes later
Ashley Taylor took a corner kick from the right side and sent it to the far post where
Lisa Fahey knocked it in from five yards out for her fourth of the year.
Washburn took 16 shots in the match while Truman managed seven. The Lady Blues put seven shots on goal while TSU put on six. Persons made five saves and picked up her second win of the year.

Lady Blues in the National Poll:
The Lady Blues fell out of the Sept. 25 ending their streak of being ranked in 13 straight polls overall dating back to last season. The Lady Blues entered the 2007 season ranked No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association National Preseason Poll which was released the week before the season began. The Lady Blues finished the 2006 season ranked No. 12 in the final poll. Washburn has been ranked in the last 13 national polls earning a ranking as high as No. 9 topping the No. 10 ranking they earned in the final regular season poll of 2006.
Up next: The Lady Blues will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Missouri Southern on Oct. 26 and Southwest Baptist on Oct. 27. The conference tournament is next on the horizon for the top four teams in the final MIAA standings.
