No. 6 Lady Blues warm up for Thanksgiving Classic by hosting Baker on Tuesday night ...
The No. 6 ranked Washburn Lady Blues will take on Baker University in a 7 p.m. tip on Nov. 20. The Lady Blues won their opener 75-44 over Southwestern on Nov. 17. Following a Wednesday break, the Lady Blues will play host to C.W. Post on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. then take on Texas A&M-Commerce the following day at 3 p.m. as part of the Capitol Plaza/AM 580 WIBW Holiday Classic.

Washburn head coach
Ron McHenry has posted a 189-37 (.836) record overall and 98-26 (.790) record in the MIAA with four consecutive MIAA regular season championships from 2003-06 and the 2005 NCAA National Championship. He was named the Lady Blues head coach prior to the 2000-01 season. He is second among active women's NCAA Division II Coaches in winning percentage. McHenry was named the MIAA's Coach of the Year in 2005 and in 2006 and the Division II Bulletin National Coach of the Year in 2005. (complete bio on page 2 of notes.)
Baker head coach Susan Decker enters her eighth season as head coach of the Baker women's basketball team with the highest win total in Baker history at 120 games. Since taking over the Lady Wildcat program, the team has experienced new levels of success on the hardwood.
Coach Decker has guided Baker to several 21 win seasons, (2001-02, 2003-04, 2004-05) setting school records for number of games won in a single season. In addition to achieving success on the court, Coach Decker's teams have also been very successful in the classroom. In the previous seven years of working with the Baker women's basketball program, her teams have produced 18 NAIA Academic All-Americans.

Nov. 17, 2007 - #6 Washburn 75, Southwestern College 44 • The sixth-ranked Lady Blues quickly turned a five-point halftime lead into a double-digit rout as they defeated Southwestern College 75-44 in their season opener.
Amanda Holmes led the starters with 11 points while Regiane Araujo equaled that total off the bench.
Karla Tailele and
Janice Bright each had 10.
The Lady Blues shot 41 percent on the night while the Moundbuilders had just a 22 percent effort. Holmes was 4 of 6 from the field while
Hope Gregory was 4 of 5 for eight points.
Washburn never trailed but was never able to pull away until the second half. After a 4-4 tie Bright hit a 3-pointer and the Lady Blues led the rest of the way. They led by 10 twice in the opening half but Southwestern cut it as close as three points in the final minute before
Corkey Stiger scored two of her nine points to give WU a 34-29 halftime lead.
Two 3-pointers in the opening minutes gave the Lady Blues a double-digit lead. They pushed it to 20 on a free throw from Araujo and then to 30 when
Emily Gibson hit a free throw.
Holmes pulled in 14 rebounds to lead the team while Araujo had eight. Holmes also led the way with four assists and two blocked shots.
Washburn/Baker Series notes . . .
The Lady Blues are 18-2 all-time against Baker, including a 69-34 win in their last meeting on Nov. 27, 2004. Washburn has won the last 14 meetings between the two schools. Baker's last win was on Dec. 6, 1980 in a 59-58 win in Topeka.

Nov. 27, 2004 - TOPEKA - The No. 9 Washburn women's basketball team topped Baker University 69-34 in Lee Arena.
The Lady Blues opened with a 42-15 lead to end the first half by connecting on 19 of 37 field goals, while Baker hit only 5 of its 24 first half field goal attempts.
The Lady Blues continued to dominate to open the second half with a 12-0 run in the first four minutes. Carla Sintra's layup gave WU a 54-15 with 16:25 left in the game.
Sintra finished with a team-high 17 points, while Jennifer Harris and Juwanna Rivers added 11 and 10 points respectively. Ashley Ohlman was the only Wildcat in double figures with 10 points.
About the Wildcats . . .
The Wildcats are 4-3 this season after topping Kansas Wesleyan 64-63 on Nov. 17. Allie Heinen leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. She scored a season-high 22 points against Sterling College.

The Lady Blues were 15-0 in Lee Arena in the 2004-05 season, out scoring opponents by a 78.2-49.9 average. The Lady Blues were 13-1 in Lee Arena in 2003-04, 16-1 in 2002-03 and 15-1 in 2001-02. WU in the national poll . . .
The Washburn Lady Blues were picked No. 6 in the WBCA/USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Preseason Poll which was released on Oct. 31. The Lady Blues were ranked No. 8 in the final poll of the 2007-08 season after finishing with a 29-4 overall record. The poll marks the 88th consecutive week the Lady Blues have been ranked.
Lady Blue Tip ins. . .
• The Lady Blues improved to 21-3 in home openers in Lee Arena with their win over Southwestern College on Nov. 17. Their last loss in the first game in Lee Arena was on Nov. 16, 1998 in a 73-60 setback to Nebraska-Kearney.
