Setting the Scene:
The No. 15 Lady Blues soccer team will hit the road for their next two MIAA matches as they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman at 2 p.m. on Sept. 21 and Northwest Missouri in Maryville, Mo., the following day at 2 p.m. The Lady Blues dropped from No. 9 to No. 15 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association Poll after going 1-1 last week, falling to now No. 8 Central Missouri 1-0 before rebounding to beat Missouri Western 7-1.
About the Bulldogs:
Quick Kicks: The Bulldogs are 4-3-0 this season and 1-1-0 in MIAA play after splitting their opening weekend of conference action. The Bulldogs beat Missouri Southern 2-1 before falling to Southwest Baptist 1-0 the following day.
About TSU: The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Jessica Wiegert and Katelyn Talcott, who each have two goals.
About the coach: Mike Cannon is in his 15th season at Truman and is the most successful coach to ever lead the Bulldogs during the last 21 years of the program's existence.
With a career record of 188-67-24 (.721), Cannon is the winningest coach in Truman women's soccer history. He is ranked in the NCAA in all-time women's soccer history in win percentage regardless of division. Within Division II, Cannon is eighth among active coaches in win percentage and 12th in victories. All-time in Division II, Cannon is fourth among coaches in percentage and 13th in victories.
Last meeting with Truman: Oct. 21, 2006 - T 0-0 (2ot) • KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – No. 15 Washburn and host Truman each scored second half goals as the two played to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon in MIAA action. The Lady Blues (14-1-3, 9-1-2) hold a five-point lead in the conference standings after second-place Missouri Southern defeated Missouri Western. MSSU has three games left while Washburn has two.
WU had an 8-3 advantage on shots in the first period but failed to score. Seven minutes into the second period
Jessica Mainz scored her team-leading 11th goal when she kicked in the ball on a scrum in front of the net. The unassisted goal at 52:07 moved her two goals away from tying her own single-season record of 13, set last year.
With six minutes left in regulation Truman's Jessica Wiegert scored on an assist from Emily Newsham to tie the score.
The two teams went without a shot the final minutes of regulation and then in the first overtime WU got off the only shot during the 10-minute period. The final OT saw each team take two shots with WU's
Kaydi Hooker putting one on net 106:34. That would be the final shot of the game as the two left the wet and sloppy field tied at 1-1.
Along with the score, most of the rest of the game was played evenly. WU led in shots 14-13 and fouls 25-23 while each teams took five corner kicks. Lady Blue goalkeeper Jenna Hatlestad and her TSU counterpart each had five saves in the 110 minutes.

About the Bearcats:
Quick Kicks: The Bearcats are 0-5-0 and 0-2-0 in MIAA play. The Bearcats are taking on Wayne State on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
About NWMSU: The Bearcats have scored two goals this season with Kelsey Sanders and Hannah Barnett recording them for Northwest.
About the coach: Tracy Hoza is in her fifth season at NWMSU. She has a 21-51-10 career record.
Last meeting with NWWSU: Oct. 14, 2006 - W 1-0 • MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Lady Blues got a first-half goal from sophomore forward
Jessica Mainz and then held on for a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon to set a school record with their 12th win. Washburn, ranked 18th in the nation, improved to 12-1-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the MIAA.
Mainz scored an unassisted goal at 21:46 for her team-leading 10th of the year. It was also her fifth game-winner. She ended the match with four shots with three on goal, matching Jolene Silovsky's effort to lead the team. Overall, the Lady Blues took 15 shots with 10 on goal while the Bearcats got off 10 shots and put four on goal.
Washburn goalkeeper Jenna Hatlestad made all four saves as she recorded her sixth shutout and lowered her goals allowed average to 0.58.
The Lady Blues set the school win record this year in their fourth year as a program. Last year WU went 11-5-4. Their next MIAA win will set a conference victory record.

Washburn is 39-33-15 (.531) all-time in its fifth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 24-25-11 (.481). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 19-14-5 and they are 14-17-7 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 6-2-3.

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 9 Washburn Lady Blues got offensive and
Jessica Mainz recorded her second hat trick in the last three games as the Lady Blues blasted Missouri Western 7-1. The seven goals is a new school record for the Lady Blues.
Washburn (4-3-1, 2-1-0 MIAA) took a 2-1 lead into the half as
Danielle Ayala scored on an assist in the seventh minute off an assist from Mainz to put Washburn up 1-0 and
Keeley Lambeth scored her second goal of the season in the 25th minute on a double-touch assist from
Ashley Taylor and
Ashley Hynek. It was the first of three assists by Taylor, which would an MIAA and Washburn record. Two minutes and three seconds later, the Griffons' (2-6-0, 1-2-0 MIAA) Meigan Soo scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Michelle Polk.
The Lady Blues outshot the Griffons 13 to 1 in the first half.
In the second half it was all Washburn as the Lady Blues scored five unanswered goals in the final 23:02 of the match en route to a new school record for goals in a match with seven.
The scoring started in the 66th minute as
Lisa Fahey scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick from
Ashley Taylor.
Mainz added what would be the first of her three goals on the evening unassisted on a free kick that bent into the left corner in the 79th minute.
Manon Englehardt scored her third goal of the season after driving the left side and scoring from 10 yards out in the 81st minute.
Mainz recorded her second goal on a double-pass assist from
Brie Forman and Taylor in the 85th minute.
Mainz wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute on a cross from Englehardt.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for the Lady Blues.
Washburn outshot the Griffons for the match 29 to 2, including a 16 to 1 advantage in the second half.

The Lady Blues entered the 2007 season ranked No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association National Preseason Poll which was released the week before the season began. The Lady Blues finished the 2006 season ranked No. 12 in the final poll. Washburn has been ranked in the last 13 national polls earning a ranking as high as No. 9 topping the No. 10 ranking they earned in the final regular season poll of 2006. They were ranked No. 15 in the Sept. 18th national poll.
