EMPORIA, Kan. -- Washburn's
Kaydi Hooker scored her first career goal and
Jessica Mainz had a foot in each of the Lady Blues' goals as Washburn topped Emporia State 2-0 in the soccer version of the Turnpike Tussle. With the win, the No. 3 regionally ranked Lady Blues improved to 9-5-1 and 5-4-0 in conference play and won their fifth straight game. Washburn will face Northwest Missouri on Saturday in Maryville at 11 a.m.
Hooker's goal came in the 13th minute off a pass from Mainz into the right corner of the net. The goal was the only one of the first half as the Lady Blues outshot the Hornets 14 to 6 in the first half.
In the second half, the teams were scoreless until the 86:09 mark as Mainz connected with
Lauren Henry for her sixth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with Mainz.
Jenny Persons picked up the shutout collecting seven saves while facing 12 shots. She improved to 6-0-0 in goal this season and picked up her fourth shutout.
In the match, Washburn outshot the Hornets 26 to 12 and had a 3 to 1 advantage in corner kicks.
Danielle Ayala had 10 shots with five shots coming on goal for the Lady Blues.

Jessica Mainz's two assists gives her a school-best 19 assists, which also ranks in a sixth-place tie all-time in the MIAA ... the two assists also gives Mainz 113 career points, which is third all-time in the MIAA ...
