Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team will be looking to set the school record for the longest winning streak as they are in search of No. 7 on Thursday when they will face Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Omaha. Following the match with the Mavericks, Washburn will return home to face Southwest Baptist on Oct. 25 following the Ichabod football game at 6 p.m. The Lady Blues' longest winning streak in school history is six from the 2006 season.

Ashley Taylor's fourth goal of the season pushed Washburn to a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri. The win was the sixth in a row for the Lady Blues who improved to 10-5-1 on the season and 6-4-0 in the MIAA. Washburn will be back in action on Oct. 23 when they travel to Nebraska-Omaha at 4 p.m.
After a scoreless first half in which the Lady Blues were outshot 11 to 7, Washburn turned the tables in the second half outshooting the Bearcats 15 to 5 in the second half.
Taylor's goal came at the 54:30 mark of the match as she beat the goalie to the right corner of the net on an assist from
Jordan Shefte.
Jenny Persons recorded the shutout, her fifth of the season as she improved to 6-0-0 in net for the Lady Blues this season. Persons had eight saves for Washburn.
Jessica Mainz had seven shots and
Danielle Ayala had five.
The six-match winning streak ties the school record for most consecutive wins. The 2006 MIAA Champion Lady Blues soccer team won six straight matches.
About Nebraska-Omaha:
Quick Kicks: The Mavericks are 9-4-0 this season and 7-4-0 in the MIAA. UNO has won two of their last three matches after falling to Washburn 4-3 on Oct. 11 in Topeka.
About the coach: Head coach Don Klosterman, has compiled a 165-36-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005).
Series history: UNO leads the all-time series 2-1-1. Washburn won the last meeting 4-3 on Oct. 11 this season. The teams have one postseason meeting when the teams tied in their last meeting 2-2 in the 2006 NCAA second round playoffs, but the Mavericks advanced 3-1 on PK's to advance in the national playoffs.

Last meeting with UNO: Oct. 11, 2008 -- TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues held off a second half by No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha surge in a 4-3 win in Yager Stadium.
The Lady Blues scored three goals in the first half as
Danielle Ayala scored her fourth goal of the season at the 14:40 mark of the match on an assist from
Lauren Henry as she beat the goalie on a ball into the right side of the net.
Washburn took a 2-0 lead on
Lauren Henry's fifth goal of the season on an assist from
Jessica Mainz at the 33:24 mark of the match. Ayala added her second goal of the evening on Mainz's second assist of the night in the 38th minute of the match. UNO's Melanie Patrick scored right before the first half horn as she scored on a corner kick from Brittany Battaglia. It was her first goal of the season.
To start the second half, Mainz scored her sixth goal of the season as she raced down the right side of the field and slid the ball into the upper left hand corner of the goal to put Washburn up 4-1. It would turn out the be the game-winner for the Lady Blues as the Mavericks' Casey Bigsby scored the first of her two goals against Washburn. The first cam unassisted from 10-yards out and the second was off another corner kick from Battaglia.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for Washburn as she picked up four saves.
Washburn was outshot in the match 13 to 11, including a 6 to 3 advantage in the second half. Each team had three corner kicks.
Last time out for UNO: October 20, 2008 -- KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State forward Jessica Wiegert scored three goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory over the University of Nebraska at Omaha (9-4-0, 7-4-0 MIAA) soccer team Monday afternoon in MIAA action in Kirksville, Mo.
Truman State (12-3-1, 8-3-1 MIAA) opened the scoring just four minutes into the contest when Wiegert got past the Maverick defense for a breakaway and beat sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Fox to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs wouldn't strike again until the second half when they exploded for three goals in the first 13 minutes of the half, taking a commanding 4-0 advantage.
The Maverick offense, which had outscored its opponents 7-0 in their previous two matches, got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute off a header by senior Tara Wegehaupt.
The Truman State defense was able to contain the potent Maverick offense, holding them to just seven shots, three on goal.
About Southwest Baptist:
Quick Kicks: The Bearcats enter the week with an 8-2-2 overall record and they are 7-2-1 in the MIAA. SBU will take on Central Missouri on Wednesday before facing the Lady Blues on Saturday. SBU is the last time to beat the Lady Blues this season on Sept. 27 in a 2-1 win in Bolivar, Mo.
About the coach: Ben Wade is in his third season at SBU and has compiled a 31-23-14 all-time record.
Series history: SBU leads the all-time series 5-3-3. After dropping the first four games in the series between the schools, the Lady Blues have gone 3-1-3 in the last seven meetings against SBU. Four of the last five matches have gone into double overtime.

Last meeting with Southwest Baptist - Sept. 27, 2008 - BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell behind 2-0 at Southwest Baptist and pulled within one goal late in the match, but could not score the equalizer in a 2-1 setback to the Lady Bearcats. Nicola Cousins scored in the 34th minute giving SBU a 1-0 lead, a margin which would stand until halftime.Cousins added her second goal of the match, and her second assisted by Rhiane MItchell in the 69th minute of the match.
Danielle Sicard scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career in the 71st minute off an assist from
Danielle Ayala.
Washburn outshot the Lady Bearcats 17 to 15 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Last time out for the Bearcats: (Oct. 16) BOLIVAR, Mo. - SBU Bearcat's put three past and record their sixth shutout of the season. The Bearcats opened the scoring in the 77th minute when Rhianne Mitchell played the ball across the six yard box and watch as it was deflected in from an MSSU players attempted clearance. The second was quickly added when the Welsh attacking duo of Kelly Isaac and Nicola Cousins linked up to give Cousins her 12th goal of the season and Isaac her second assist. With just over two minutes left in play the Bearcats finished of the Lions with a second goal of the game for Mitchell, the assist coming Cousins.
SBU outshot Missouri Southern 30-5, which was reflected in the final 3-0 score.
