OMAHA, Neb. -- The Washburn Lady Blues won their school-record seventh straight match as
Danielle Ayala scores both goals against No. 23-ranked Nebraska-Omaha in a 2-1. Washburn improves to 11-5-1 overall and 7-4-0 in the MIAA. Washburn, who swept the season series with UNO, will host Southwest Baptist at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Yager Stadium.
After a scoreless first half in which the Lady Blues were outshot 4 to 3, Washburn scored the first goal of the match as Ayala connected on a free kick in the 71st minute of the match. In the 77th minute, Ayala scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season of assists from
Jessica Mainz and
Ashley Taylor putting Washburn up 2-0.
The Mavericks Mykala Hanson scored with under three minutes left on an assist from Lindsey Nealon to cut the lead in half, however they would not get any closer.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in net for the Lady Blues with four saves allowing one goal.
Washburn was outshot in the match 10 to 7 and the Lady Blues did not attempt a corner kick while the Mavericks had eight corner kick opportunities.
