Englehardt's goal in 2nd overtime sends WU to next round of NCAA playoffs

CANYON, Texas -- Washburn's Manon Englehardt's third goal of the season 47 seconds into the second overtime on an assist from Danielle Ayala from 4-yards out pushed the Lady Blues to a 2-1 win over West Texas A&M and into the second round of the NCAA Division II National Playoffs where they will face Truman on Sunday at 1 p.m. It was the first win for the Lady Blues in their NCAA history as they lifted their record to 1-0-2 overall.

Washburn (15-6-2), who tied a school record for wins in a season, was outshot 6 to 0 in the first half as West Texas A&M attempted nine corner kicks to none for the Lady Blues. WTAM scored the first goal of the match in the 34th minute when Kayla Sisco scored on a free kick from Adi Stein.

In the second half, Ashley Taylor knotted the score on an assist from Kaydi Hooker in the 79th minute. It was Taylor's seventh goal of the season.

Washburn turned the tied in the second half outshooting WTAM 13 to 1 while holding a 4 to 1 advantage in corner kicks.

After 90 minutes of play, the teams entered a sudden death overtime period with West Texas outshooting the Lady Blues 2 to 1.

It took only 47 seconds in the second overtime for Englehardt's goal to close out the match.

Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for the Lady Blues collecting four saves.
