Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team look to remain in the postseason picture as they wrap up the regular season with away matches at Missouri Southern on Nov. 6 and at Missouri Western on Nov. 8. The Lady Blues (12-6-2, 8-5-1) are ranked third in the latest NCAA South Central Regional poll. The regular season finale with Missouri Western will be streamed online at themiaa.tv. The Lady Blues made the regionals in 2006 after winning the MIAA regular season championship.

Jessica Mainz and
Lisa Fahey all contributed to Washburn's two goals as the Lady Blues beat Emporia State 2-1 Saturday at Yager Stadium on Senior Day. Washburn's seven seniors were honored prior to the game as they played their final regular season game at home.
The Lady Blues improved to 12-6-2 overall and 8-5-1 in the MIAA and they will play their next game Thursday at Missouri Souther State.
Senior
Jenny Persons started in goal and got the win and seniors
Lisa Fahey,
Traci Nigg and
Manon Englehardt also started.
Emporia State scored first when Persons tried to clear away an ESU chance. The ball was deflected back and Alison Germany was there to shoot it in the empty net at the 10:15 mark.
The Lady Blues tied the game five minutes before halftime when Taylor scored her fifth goal of the year from the left side on a pass from Ayala.
Twelve minutes into the second half Ayala scored her eighth of the year on a pass from Mainz. She received the pass right in front of the goal line and shot it in from the right side.
Mainz led WU with four shots and Taylor had three and tied Ayala with a team-high two on goal.
The Lady Blues out-shot the Hornets 15-4 and put nine on goal. ESU's only shot on target was Germany's goal.
Washburn took eight corner kicks while ESU had just one.

About the coach: Head Coach Trevor Wachsman is in his sixth year as head coach of the Missouri Southern women's soccer program. Formerly a two-year assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, he was named the second head coach in the history of Lions soccer on April 30, 2003. He is 51-46-19 overall.
Series history with Missouri Southern: Washburn trails the all-time series 3-4-5. Three of the last four meetings have been double overtime ties. Washburn won the first meeting this season 1-0 on Oct. 4 in Topeka.

Last meeting with Missouri Southern: Oct. 4, 2008 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team blanked Missouri Southern 1-0 to improve to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-4-0 in MIAA play.
Danielle Ayala scored her third goal of the season and the only one of the game from 4-yards out as she received a pass from
Lauren Henry putting it in the net and Washburn up 1-0 in the 34th minute of the match. It turned out to be the match-winner as well, the third of her Washburn career.
Jenny Persons picked up the shutout in goal for the Lady Blues, the fourth of her Washburn career as she picked up two saves - both in the first half. Washburn outshot the Lions 17 to 4 including 10 to 2 in the first half.
Last time out for MSSU: Joplin, Mo. -- Nikki Llewellyn tied the score in the 88th minute of regulation, then won it with a goal in the second overtime to lead the Missouri Southern Lions to a 2-1 double-overtime win over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats Saturday night (Nov. 1) at Hal Bodon Field. Llewellyn's first goal came after she missed on a penalty kick but stayed with the play and scored off the deflection. She then won it in the 103rd minute off a corner kick assist from Audrey Copenhaver in the second overtime. Andrea Tritz put the Bearcats on top early in the second half on a goal from 25 yards out at the 50:12 mark. Llewellyn, the Lions' all-time leading scorer, led the Lions with a game-high seven shots and five on-goal. Randi Russell equaled her career-high with nine saves in goal for the Lions (5-11-1, 3-10-1 MIAA), while Kira Lazenby stopped four shots for the Bearcats (8-8-2, 4-8-2 MIAA).
About Missouri Western:
Quick Kicks: The Griffons are 2-14-3 this season and 1-12-2 in MIAA play.
About the coach: Jeff Hansen is 7-44-6 in his third year as the Griffons' head coach. Hansen comes to Missouri Western after a two-year stint at Central Missouri State as the assistant women's soccer coach. Hansen also has previous collegiate coaching experience at Missouri Southern State University where he was a student-athlete.
Series history: The Lady Blues lead the all-time series 6-1-0 and have outscored the Griffons 26-1 in the six wins. Missouri Western's only win in the series was in the very first meeting when the Griffons won 2-1 on Sept. 28, 2005 for the very first win in the program's history.

Last meeting with Missouri Western - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team tossed a shutout in a 4-0 win over Missouri Western at Yager Stadium. With the win, Washburn improves to 4-3-1 and 1-2-0 in MIAA action. The Griffons fell to 1-6-1 and 0-4-0 in conference play. Washburn will be back in action on Sept. 25 in Warrensburg as they face Central Missouri at 7 p.m. in a rematch of a Sept. 13 contest in which the Lady Blues fell 1-0.The Lady Blues led from start to finish as
Lauren Henry scored her third goal of the season on an assist from
Ashley Taylor from 10 yards out in the 29th minute of play. It would be the only goal of the half as the Lady Blues took a 1-0 lead at the break. Washburn outshot the Griffons 16 to 1 in the first 45 minutes of play. In the second half,
Traci Nigg put Washburn up 2-0 with her first goal of the season from 15 yards out in the 60th minute on pass from Henry. Washburn went up 3-0 as
Jessica Mainz scored her third goal of the season and the first of two goals of the evening as she followed in a rebound off a
Manon Englehardt shot which popped up in front of the net off the top of the crossbar in the 64th minute. Mainz's second goal came 11:59 later as she scored off a pass from
Nicole Tomes.

Washburn outshot the Griffons 26 to 3 in the match. Washburn also held a 4 to 0 advantage in corner kicks.
Last time out for the Griffons: Nov. 1, 2008 -- Western gave up three second period goals to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats as they would fall 3-0 falling to 2-14-3 overall and 1-12-2 in the MIAA. The Griffons got three shots from Michelle Polk in the contest while Jenna Weis had eight saves.
The Griffons and the Bearcats played the first half to a 0-0 tie with the Bearcats leading the way with eight shots five of which were on goal. The Griffons had three shots with one on goal. Western had nine fouls to SBU's six and each team had one corner kick in the first half of play.
Krysten Clardy scored her second goal of the season in the 46th minutes of play to get the Bearcats on the board. Nicola Cousins would score her 14th and 15th goal of the season in the 55th and 63rd minute of play to give the Bearcats the victory.
The Bearcats had 18 shots with 11 on goal while the Griffons had nine with four on goal. The Bearcats had 17 fouls to the Griffons 14 and had two corner kicks to Westerns one.
The Griffons will be at home to play their final game of the season on Saturday, November 8 when they take on the Washburn Lady Blues at 7:00 pm on Senior Night from Spratt Stadium.

Washburn is 57-42-21 (.560) all-time in its sixth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 37-30-16 (.537). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 26-16-9 and they are 22-22-10 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 7-4-3.

The Washburn record for career games played was 77 held by Amanda Geist. The MIAA record for career games played and starts is 85 held by Truman's Sara Murray. If all three play in each remaining regular season match played this season, they will tie the MIAA record against Missouri Western on Nov. 9 in St. Joseph.
The Mainz Points:
Jessica Mainz has 116 career points with 47 goals and 22 assists. Her 116 points is the third-most in MIAA history. Her 47 career goals are the third-most in MIAA history trailing Ashley Munnelly with 53 and Sara Murray with 59 on the career chart. Her 22 career assists is fourth all-time in the MIAA. Mainz has also tied the school record, one she set in 2007, with her seven single-season assists this year.
A People Persons: Senior goalie
Jenny Persons currently has the school record for goals against average with 0.86. She is ranked in the top 10 in eight career categories and her 11 career wins are tied for second all-time at Washburn in goal.
Oh Henry:
Lauren Henry has seven goals and three assists for 17 points in her first season at Washburn. Her seven goals are tied for second on the freshman single-season goal chart and her three assists are tied for third. The 17 total points is tied for second with Melissa Zadina (2003) with 17. Only
Jessica Mainz (2005) had more total points as a freshman with 30.
The Fa-hey kid:
Lisa Fahey, along with being tied for first with 83 career games played and starts, has played more minutes than anyone in Lady Blues history with 6,840. After not recording a goal in her first two seasons at Washburn, she has scored eight as a junior (6) and two as a senior.

Following the completion of the regular season, the Lady Blues will then await a possible postseason berth when the NCAA South Central Regional pairing will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10. The first round of regional play will begin on Nov. 14.
