Monica Miesner led the Lady Blues with 12 kills and 13 digs as they cruised to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-12 win at Southwest Baptist Friday night. No. 7 Washburn (29-3, 14-3 MIAA) will now head to Pittsburg State to take on the No. 19 Gorillas, 3-0 winners over conference leader Emporia State Friday.
Miesner hit .478 in the match with one error in 23 tries and the Lady Blues hit .387 as a team with eight errors in 106 tries.
Ashley Shepard had nine kills and
Caitlin Conley and
Mollie Lacy each had five. Lacy hit .625 with no errors in eight attempts.
Kate Hampson had 37 assists and
Molly Smith tied Miesner with 13 digs. The Lady Blues blocked six attacks and Hampon led the team as she contributed to three of them.
The Lady Blues hit over .350 in all three sets while the Bearcats hit over .100 just once and had a .095 percentage on the night.
SBU led twice early in the opening set but the Lady Blues used a pair of 6-1 runs to lead 8-4 and 16-10. Washburn scored four of the last five points to close out the set.
The Bearcats tied the second set at 13-13 and kept close until a 4-0 WU run made the score 19-14. SBU got within four points twice after that but Miesner ended the set with a kill.
Washburn used a 6-0 run and then a 7-1 run in the final set to keep the Bearcats from getting close.
Ashley Jurgensmeyer led SBU with seven kills and a .250 attack percentage.
