EDMOND, Okla. -- The Washburn Lady Blues finished the UCO Classic going 1-2 with a 3-2 win over East Central before falling 8-5 to the host Bronchos. The Lady Blues (3-10) wrapped up the classic with a 5-3 loss to St. Gregory's. Washburn will be back in action next weekend at the SIU-Edwardsville Invitational, the home of the NCAA Division II defending champions.
Game 1 - Washburn 3, East Central 2 | Season Stats
Washburn entered the bottom of the seventh tied at 2-2, but an RBI single by Dani WHite to center scored
Tish Williams who led off the inning with a double with the game-winning run. The Lady Blues scored solo runs in the fourth on an RBI single by
Jessie Batres scoring
Mandy Tarbutton. In the fifth inning Washburn scored after Williams led off the inning with a triple and then scored on an an error by the right fielder.
Kelly Swygert picked up the win in the circle striking out one allowing one earned run forcing 16 ground outs.
Game 2 - Central Oklahoma 8, Washburn 5
The Lady Blues started the game scoring a run in the bottom of the first as Williams walked and scored on
Brooke DeVader's double to left. However, the Bronchos scored three in the fifth inning and five more in the top of the sixth taking an 8-1 lead. Washburn rallied to score four in the bottom of the sixth. Williams hit her second triple of the game with a bases loaded shot to left which scored Tarbutton,
Whitney Tapp and
Candi Madill. After holding UCO scoreles in the top of the seventh, Washburn went down in order in the bottom of the seventh taking the 8-5 loss.
Megan Kimerer took the loss after allowing four earned runs.
Game 3 - St. Gregory's 5, Washburn 3
Brooke DeVader led the Lady Blues with three hits, but Washburn could not rally from an early 4-0 deficit. After giving up three runs in the bottom of the third and a solo run to St. Gregory's in the fifth, Washburn scored two in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2, but surrendered another solo run in the bottom of the inning. Washburn two runs in the sixth came after back to back singles by
Malarie Fellers and Devader as
Whitney Tapp picked up an RBI. Washburn scored one more in the top of the seventh on a single by Tarbutton sending
Tish Williams home.
Kayla Long took the loss in the circle for the Lady Blues.
