Season Statistics
The Ichabods finally got their home openers in as they split a doubleheader with Upper Iowa (1-8) Tuesday at Falley Field. Washburn won game one 10-3 to give head coach Steve Anson his 699th win at WU and then in game two Upper Iowa got a solid pitching performance from its starter in a 5-1 win over the Ichabods.
Washburn (2-4) will stay at home to open MIAA play Friday at 2 p.m. against Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader and then the two will conclude the series with two more games Saturday at noon.
Game 1

Washburn fell behind 1-0 in the second inning but scored in four straight innings to lead to a 10-3 win over the Peacocks. Anson improved his 29-year record at Washburn to 699-613-3 with the win and
Curtis Hamilton picked up his first win on the mound for the Ichabods.
With their team up 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth,
Brian Gorges and
Wes Joy hit back-to-back solo home runs and then
Mark Stoltz drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to give WU an 8-1 lead. The Ichabods added two more runs in the fifth inning when Gorges tripled in a run and
Joe Hosey drove one in on a grounder.
Gorges was 3 for 3 in the game with three RBI and two runs scored and Luis Beltran Lopez was 3 for 4 with a run scored.
Hamilton pitched the first six innings and allowed three runs off five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Drue Henton pitched the final inning and allowed a hit.
The Peacocks scored first in the top of the second on a ground out and then WU answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Lopez singled and then
Cameron Kasel followed with a double to drive in Lopez.
Calvin Iversen later drove in Kasel and then Gorges singled to left field to drive in Iversen.
The Ichabods scored two more in the bottom of the third on a pair of wild pitches.
Game 2

Upper Iowa starter Brian Solemsaas went the distance in a 5-1 win to give the Peacocks their first victory of the season. He allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
The Ichabods scored first in the opening frame as Hosey was hit by a pitch and then stole second base.
Brett Sorensen then drove him in with a single to center field. That was all the production the Ichabods got from their offense as they had just one hit in the fourth and one more in the fifth the rest of the way.
The Peacocks came around in the fourth inning as they got two runs off three hits off
Bryan Stroth, the third of six Ichabod pitchers used in the game. They got three more in the sixth. Stroth picked up the loss in his first decision of the year.

Brian Gorges and
Calvin Iversen were each 3 for 6 in the two games and Gorges had three RBI and his team-leading third home run. Gorges also had the first triple this year for Washburn.
- Upper Iowa now leads the series history between the two schools 3-5.
- Head coach Steve Anson's next win will give him 700 at WU. He is 699-614-3 in 29 years at Washburn and 722-636-3 in 30 years overall. He is already WU's winningest coach.
