TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues blasted out six home runs in a double header sweep over Bethany College taking the first game 11-3 and winning the night cap 9-0 with both games ending in five innings. Washburn will be back in action on Friday against William Jewell at 1:30 p.m.

Game 1 -- The Lady Blues fell behind 1-0 after the second inning, but rallied for four runs in the bottom of the second capped by Whitney Tapp's two-run double. Tapp would hit two triples in the game as well becoming only the second Lady Blue since Sharri Spangler to hit two triples in a single game in 1990 against Benedictine. Washburn added two more in the fourth on a home run by Williams, her fifth of the season, and Tapp's first triple. In the bottom of the fifth, Washburn closed out the game scoring five runs with Brooke DeVader's fifth home run of the season and the 28th of her career - five shy of setting a new school record. Megan Kimerer picked up the win in relief for the Lady Blues pitching one and two-thirds inning without allowing a hit. Tapp finished 4 for 4 with four RBI and three runs scored. DeVader drove in three and Williams picked up two RBI.

Game 2 -- The Lady Blues used a combined shutout from Kimerer and Kayla Long holding the Lady Swedes to two hits in five innings leading to the 9-0 win. Washburn jumped on Bethany in the first inning as Williams and Dani White both homered. White's home run was estimated at 280 feet landing in right field of the Lake Shawnee Complex. Washburn took advantage of Lady Swede errors scoring five unearned runs in the bottom of the second with DeVader hitting her 29th career home run to right field - a three run shot clearing the bases. Washburn wrapped up the scoring on Williams second home run of the game and the third on the afternoon with a two-run blast to left field. Long retired the final six batters for Bethany picking up the win.
