Lady Blues improve win streak to 9 with 3-0 day at MWSU Invite

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues stretched their winning streak to nine games after going 3-0 on the first day of the Missouri Western Invitational. Washburn will continue regional play at the tournament later today starting at 11 a.m.

Game 1 - Washburn 1, Wayne State 0 | Season Stats
Nicole Perkuhn struck out seven as she allowed only two hits in a complete-game shutout over Wayne State. Mandy Tarbutton scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a single to center by Jessie Batres. Perkuhn had a perfect game going through the first four and one-third innings before yielding a walk. She kept her no-hitter intact until a single with two outs in the sixth.

Game 2 - Washburn 7, Concordia-St. Paul 4
Tarbutton had three hits and an RBI and Katie Duncan hit a two-run homer in the 7-4 win over Concordia-St. Paul. Malarie Fellers, Dani White and Candi Madill each had two hits in the win. Kelly Swygert improved to 8-6 on the season striking out four and walking one.

Game 3 - Washburn 5, Upper Iowa 3

Washburn entered the top of the seven with a 2-1 lead and added three more in the top of the seventh pushing the lead to 5-1. Upper Iowa cut the lead to 5-3 scoring two runs, but would not get any closer in the Lady Blues' win. Washburn picked up 11 hits in the win with Whitney Tapp, Brooke DeVader, White, Duncan and Madill all collecting two each. White also drove in two runs. Megan Kimerer picked up the win with four strikeouts and all three runs she allowed were unearned.
