Lady Blues knock off 2 ranked teams, including #3 UNO in first day action in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball team had a 3-0 day in the first day of action in the Nebraska-Omaha Classic, including wins of No. 3 ranked Nebraska-Omaha and No. 23 ranked Minnesota State-Mankato. Washburn's other win came over Minnesota-Duluth. Washburn has now won 15 of their last 16 games dating back to March 11 is 20-16 on the season.

Game 1 - Washburn 8, #3 Nebraska-Omaha 4 - Box Score

Washburn scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning after trailing 2-1. Four of the six runs were earned with the big hit in the inning coming from the bat of Dani White who smacked a two-run homer. Washburn added four more in the inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate. Washburn added a solo run in the sixth to push their lead to five. UNO added a run in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough. Tish Williams, Brooke DeVader and Mandy Tarbutton each had two hits fro the Lady Blues. WIlliams also walked two times. Tarbutton added three runs scored. Kelly Swygert picked up the win with the complete-game win allowing four runs and seven hits.

Game 2 - Washburn 6, #23 Minnesota State 5 - Box Score
The Lady Blues scored three runs in the third inning and three in the fourth leading to the 6-5 win over No. 23 ranked Minnesota State. Whie drove in two runs in the third inning on a single to left and Tarbutton drove in the other run in the inning. In the fourth inning, Washburn sent nine batters to the plate scoring three runs with an RBI single by Malarie Fellers and a sac fly by White. White finished with three RBI and Fellers was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Whitney Tapp and DeVader each scored two runs and Tish Williams was intentionally walked twice. Swygert picked up her second straight win over a ranked opponent scattering six hits allowing three earned runs.

Game 3 - Washburn 12, Minnesota-Duluth 4 - Box Score
Washburn scored four runs in the fourth and used a seven-run fourth inning racking up season-highs with 12 runs and 18 hits in a five inning 12-4 win over the Bulldogs. Tapp was four for four with three runs scored. Jessie Batres and DeVader each had three hits. Candi Madill, White, Williams and Batres all drove in two runs in the win. Megan Kimerer struck out three in five innings while improving to 4-1 on the season.

Notes:
Dani White was 4 for 10 with 7 RBI in the three games ... Brooke DeVader was 7 for 11 with 2 RBI and four doubles in three games ... Whitney Tapp scored six runs going 4 for 9 at the plate ... the Lady Blues batted .396 in the three games ... Kelly Swygert was 2-0 with two complete games pitching 14 innings with a 3.50 ERA.
