Lady Blues drop three games at PSU Invite

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell to 5-15 on the season dropping three games in the Pitt State Invitational over the weekend. Washburn will take on Bethany tomorrow in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lake Shawnee Softball Complex in a game which was originally scheduled for on campus but was moved because of poor playing conditions.

Game 1 -- Pittsburg State 6, Washburn 5 (eight innings) | Season Stats

Washburn scored in the bottom of the first on a home run by Brooke DeVader and added another run in the fourth inning on a solo shot by Dani White. The Gorillas rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Washburn tied the score in the fifth on a double by Malarie Fellers who drove in Tish Williams who reached base with an RBI triple knotting the score at 4-4. After a scoreless seventh, PSU pushed two runs across in the eighth and the Lady Blues left two runners on after climbing within one run falling 6-5.
The Gorillas benefited from four Washburn errors in the game.

Game 2 -- Truman 2, Washburn 1
Washburn's lone run came in the fourth inning on a home run by Mandy Tarbutton. The Bulldogs scored the winning run in the top of the seventh as the Lady Blues left the tying run in scoring position.

Game 3 -- Missouri Science & Techology 6, Washburn 3

The Lady Miners did the majority of their damage in the second inning as they scored four runs leading to the 6-3 win. Washburn again had troubles in the field committing four errors. Tarbutton hit her second home run of the day in the third inning drawing the Lady Blues within two runs. Williams and DeVader each finished with three hits for Washburn.
