The Ichabods went ahead in game one but ended up losing 8-7 and then they fell 18-0 in game two as they were swept at Northwest Missouri State Sunday. The two teams will complete the four-game MIAA series with a doubleheader Monday at 1 p.m.
Dane Simoneau got his second career hit for Washburn when he hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put the Ichabods ahead in the first game. NWMSU scored a run in the bottom of the inning but the Ichabods scored three more times in the fourth inning. Simoneau and
Calvin Iversen each had RBI singles and
Brian Gorges reached on a catcher's interference with the bases loaded to force in a run.
The Bearcats then scored multiple runs in their final three innings to take the lead and win. Washburn starter
Danny Cook went 5 1/3 innings and got the loss as he allowed eight runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Simoneau was 3 for 3 with five RBI in the game and
Cameron Kasel was 3 for 4.
In the second game Washburn was held to seven hits and was unable to convert a run. Simoneau and
Brian Gorges each had two hits.
The Bearcats pounded out 17 hits, including three homers and they scored six runs in the first and five in the third off WU starter
Curtis Hamilton.
