MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues swept Northwest Missouri in an MIAA doubleheader blanking the Bearcats in the first game winning 6-0 while taking the nightcap 9-4.
Kelly Swygert picked up the win in each game and the Lady Blues will host Pittsburg State in another MIAA double dip beginning at 3 p.m. at the Washburn Softball Complex.
Game 1 - Washburn 6, Northwest Missouri 0 - Box Score
In the first game, Washburn scored five runs in the second inning all with two outs as
Jessie Batres hit her second home run of the season - a three run blast scoring
Katie Duncan and
Dani White. Two batters later
Tish Williams connected on her 10th of the season scoring
Candi Madill. Washburn added their other run in the third inning as White hit her eighth home run of the season.
Kelly Swygert picked up the win allowing three hits in the shutout with four strikeouts.
Game 2 - Washburn 9, Northwest Missouri 4 - Box Score
The Lady Blues hit three more home runs in a 9-4 win while pounding out 10 hits while taking advantage of four Bearcat errors leading to four unearned runs. Swygert picked up the win improving to 15-8 on the season with five strikeouts allowing three earned runs for Northwest.
Washburn opened the game with three runs capped by a three-run homer by White - her ninth of the season. Washburn added another run in the second, two in the fourh on a two-run Williams homer. Washburn added a solo run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh on
Whitney Tapp's first home run of the season and an RBI single by Batres which scored
Maggie West.

Dani White was 4 for 7 in the doubleheader (.571) with 4 RBI, two home runs, a triple and three runs scored. With the two home runs, White has now hit 30 in her career at Washburn. White also went over the 100-RBI mark for her career (currently at 103).

Tish Williams was 3 for 8 with two home runs and 5 RBI. Her home run total now stands at 25.
