OAKDALE, N.Y. - The No. 2 Lady Blues hit .370 as a team as they swept Adelphi 25-13, 25-18, 25-22, Friday afternoon in the first match of the Dowling Hilton Garden Inn Invite. Monica Miesner had a double-double and hit .444 to lead Washburn to its ninth straight win to start the season.

Washburn won easily in the first two sets and then held off the Panthers' in the third to claim their seventh three-set sweep of the year. A match against Dowling at 6 p.m. Central will wrap up Friday's action.

Mollie Lacy had nine kills and no errors in 18 attempts to hit .500 and Kate Hampson led the solid offense with 34 assists. Miesner's dig total of 15 led the defense and Molly Smith added 10. Washburn blocked five shots with Hampson and Stephanie Nitz each contributing to three of them.

Adelphi never led in the first or second sets but the Panthers led three times in the third set to keep it close. They built a four-point lead at 8-4 and then Washburn went on a 4-0 run to tie the score.
