TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues outshot the No. 10-ranked Truman Bulldogs 14 to 7 including a 7 to 1 advantage in the second half but it was not enough as the Bulldogs topped Washburn 2-1. With the loss, the Lady Blues fall to 3-3-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in MIAA play. Washburn will host Missouri Western on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Yager Stadium.
The Bulldogs scored first in the match in the 14th minute as Katie Reuck scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Katie Buning. It was the first of two goals on the night for Reuck who would score the game-winner in the 31st minute on an assist from Isabel Gaeta. The two Reuck goals sandwiched
Ashley Taylor's first goal of the season in the 25th minute as she scored on an assist from
Traci Nigg. However it would be on the only goal for the Lady Blues on the night.
Washburn held a 7 to 6 advantage in shots in the first half and kept the pressure on the Bulldogs in the second half holding a 7 to 1 lead in shots, but none could clear Truman's Denise Childress who picked up the win in net for Truman.
Washburn's best chances to score were in the second half as they attempted six corner kicks to none for the Bulldogs. Washburn had three chances within 90 seconds of each other with under 10 minutes to play in the match. Nigg had a shot which hit the left post with just over eight minutes to play.
Ashley Klone picked up four saves in goal for Washburn after giving up the two first half goals.
