Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues, after splitting a pair of games in Hawaii, will travel to Denver, Colo., to face nationally ranked Metro State on Sept. 5 and Regis in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on Sept. 7. Washburn is 1-1-0 this season.

Manon Englehardt scored in the first half and then
Danielle Ayala scored the game-winner with just more than a minute remaining to give the Lady Blues a 2-1 win at Hawaii Pacific Saturday. Washburn improved to 1-1 and will play two more matches on the road, this time in Denver, Colo., starting with Metro State Friday at 5 p.m.
Englehardt scored unassisted at 37:20 and then 1:52 into the second half HPU tied the match on a goal from Katrina Torres. Ayala got the game-winner at 88:54 on an assist from
Ashley Taylor.
Hawaii Pacific put three shots on goal with WU keeper
Jenny Persons stopping two of them. The Lady Blues had eight shots on goal and 15 total while HPU tallied just the three.
About Metro State:
Quick Kicks: Metro State is 2-1 this season after winning back-to-back games after dropping their opener 3-2 in overtime to Minnesota State. The Roadrunners topped Winona State 2-1 in overtime and then beat Mary 2-0 on Sept. 1 in their home opener.
About MSCD: The Roadrunners, winners of the 2004 and 2006 NCAA National Championships, return six starters and seven letterwinners off a 16-4-2 team from last season which reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs.
About the coach: Adrianne Almaraz is in her first season as the Roadrunners head coach after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach. Almaraz was the captain of Metro State's 2004 national championship team.
Series history: Metro leads the all-time series with the Lady Blues 1-0-0 after taking a 2-1 decision on Oct. 7, 2007 in Omaha.
Last meeting with Metro State - Oct. 7, 2007 - OMAHA, Neb. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell 2-1 to No. 13 Metro State in Omaha, Neb., to fall to 6-5-3 on the season.
The Lady Blues took the early lead 3:30 into the match as
Jessica Mainz scored her 14th goal of the season on a cross from the corner from
Manon Englehardt. The goal set the Washburn single-season goal record and added to her single-season point record of 33 points (14 goals, 5 assists).
Metro State, the defending national champions, tied the score in the 12th minute as Madison McQuilliams scored her ninth goal from Katie Kilbey on a cross. The Roadrunners took the lead for good in the 41st minute when Becca Mays netted her eighth goal of the season on a pass from Linnea Dengah taking a 2-1 lead in the halftime break.
Neither team would score in the second half as Metro took the win.
The Lady Blues outshot the Roadrunners 17 to 6 overall and 12 to 2 in the second half, but they could not convert any of the shot attempts into goals.
It was a physical match as there were 15 fouls called with 10 coming against the Roadrunners. Metro's head coach Danny Sanchez and Gabby Klipp were both ejected in the 56th minute. Sanchez was sent off for language and Klipp was red carded for violent conduct at the 55:27 mark of the second half.
About the Rangers:
Quick Kicks: The Lady Blues have never played Regis.
About Regis: The Rangers are 1-1-0 this season after falling 2-1 to Winona State and then rebounding to top Minnesota State 2-1. Regis has a Sept. 5 date with Grand Canyon before hosting the Lady Blues on Sept. 7.
About the coach: J.B. Belzer is in his 13th season as the head coach of the Regis University women's soccer team. Hired prior to the 1996 campaign, Belzer is just the second head coach in program history. Belzer has amassed an 170-75-12 (.681) overall record.
Series history: Washburn and Regis have never met.

Washburn is 46-37-19 (.545) all-time in its fifth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 30-26-15 (.481). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 22-14-8 and they are 18-19-8 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 6-4-3.
