DENVER, Colo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team held a 1-0 advantage after the first half of their match with No. 12 ranked Metro State, but the Roadrunners added a second half goal to knot the score sending the match into overtime. After two overtime sessions, neither team could score resulting in a 1-1 tie. Washburn is now 1-1-1 on the season and will take on Regis (Colo.) on Sunday. Regis received votes in the last National Soccer Coaches Assocation poll which was released on Tuesday.
Washburn's
Lauren Henry scored the first goal of the match and her first of her collegiate career in the 43rd minute of action on a shot over the outstretched hands of the Metro State goalie. The Roadrunners tied the score in the 67th mintute when Becca Mays scored her second goal of the season for Metro State.
In goal for the Lady Blues,
Ashley Klone had a career-high 15 saves as the Lady Blues were outshot by the Roadrunners 27 to 13 including a five to two combined advantage in the two overtime sessions. The 15 saves by Klone were the second most in a Washburn single match trailing only Jenna Hatlestad who recorded 17 against Northwest Missouri on Oct. 15, 2004.
