Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team will look to continue their four-match winning streak as they travel for contests at Northwest Missouri on Oct. 8 and at Nebraska-Omaha on Oct. 11. The Lady Blues (6-4-0, 3-3-0 MIAA) will then return home to face Emporia State on Oct. 15 and Northwest Missouri again on Oct.17 on homecoming Saturday in Topeka.

Team notes: The Bearcats are 7-3-1 and 3-3-1 in MIAA action this season. They are also 4-1-1 at home. The Bearcats are 0-2-1 in their last three matches with two matches going into overtime including a 0-0 double overtime tie with Central Missouri.
About the coach: Tracy Hoza is in her sixth season as the Bearcats head coach. She is 34-60-12 at Northwest.
About the Bearcats: Northwest is led by Andrea Tritz and her four goals a match for nine points. She has recorded 23 shots on goal. Sara Meidlinger and Kelsey Sanders each have three assists. Kira Lazenby has a 0.79 goal against average in net for the Bearcats allowing only nine goals with 58 saves.
Series history with the Bearcats: The Lady Blues lead the all-time series 8-1-3 and have not lost to the Bearcats since the very first meeting in the series in a 3-1 loss on Sept. 10, 2003. Since then, the Lady Blues have gone 8-0-3 and have won the last two match ups in shutout wins. Five of the last six matches have been shutout wins for the Lady Blues with the lone goal for the Bearcats was in a 1-1 double overtime tie on Oct. 12, 2007 in Topeka.

Ashley Taylor's fourth goal of the season pushed Washburn to a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri. After a scoreless first half in which the Lady Blues were outshot 11 to 7, Washburn turned the tables in the second half outshooting the Bearcats 15 to 5 in the second half. Taylor's goal came at the 54:30 mark of the match as she beat the goalie to the right corner of the net on an assist from
Jordan Shefte.
Jenny Persons recorded the shutout, her fifth of the season as she improved to 6-0-0 in net for the Lady Blues this season. Persons had eight saves for Washburn.
Jessica Mainz had seven shots and
Danielle Ayala had five. The six-match winning streak ties the school record for most consecutive wins. The 2006 MIAA Champion Lady Blues soccer team won six straight matches.
Last time out for Northwest Missouri: (Oct. 3, 2009) OMAHA, Neb.—Jerica Kuncl netted the game-winning goal with eight seconds left in the first overtime to lift Nebraska-Omaha to a 2-1 win against Northwest Missouri State Saturday at UNO Soccer Field. Northwest midfielder Shannon FitzGerald tied the game at 1-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation. It was the first goal of the season for FitzGerald, who became the eighth Bearcat to net a goal this season. The two teams combined to put seven shots on goal, three of which found the back of the net. The Mavericks held the Bearcats to six shots, one shy of their season low. Northwest has scored one goal in its last three games.
Match Eleven | Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks
Team notes: The Mavericks are 7-4-0 and 6-1-0 entering a Thursday match with Emporia State. They Mavericks started the season with back to back losses, but have won six of their last seven matches.
About the coach: Head coach Don Klosterman is in his 11th season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer team. He has compiled a 177-43-7 (.793) overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2008). In those appearances, Klosterman guided the Mavericks to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons (2002-2007), and led the team to a 2005 National Championship.
About the Mavericks: The Mavericks have won their last two matches with wins over the Bearcats - 3-0 over Southwest Baptist on Oct. 1 and 2-1 over Northwest Missouri on Oct. 3. Nicole Baier leads the team with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She has three match-winning goals this season. Jessica Powers has scored six goals and Jerica Kuncl has scored four goals. Lauren Fox is 5-1-0 in net for the Mavericks with a 1.22 goal against average. She has allowed 10 goals with 36 saves in 739 minutes of action.
Series history with the Mavericks: The series is tied 2-2-1 after Washburn won both meetings last season. The teams have one postseason meeting when the teams tied in their last meeting 2-2 in the 2006 NCAA second round playoffs, but the Mavericks advanced 3-1 on PK's to advance in the national playoffs.

Last meeting with the Mavericks: (Oct. 23, 2008) OMAHA, Neb. -- The Washburn Lady Blues won their school-record seventh straight match as
Danielle Ayala scored both goals against No. 23-ranked Nebraska-Omaha in a 2-1 win.
After a scoreless first half in which the Lady Blues were outshot 4 to 3, Washburn scored the first goal of the match as Ayala connected on a free kick in the 71st minute of the match. In the 77th minute, Ayala scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season of assists from
Jessica Mainz and
Ashley Taylor putting Washburn up 2-0.
The Mavericks Mykala Hanson scored with under three minutes left on an assist from Lindsey Nealon to cut the lead in half, however they would not get any closer.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in net for the Lady Blues with four saves allowing one goal.
Washburn was outshot in the match 10 to 7 and the Lady Blues did not attempt a corner kick while the Mavericks had eight corner kick opportunities.
Last time out for the Mavericks: (Oct. 3, 2009) OMAHA, Neb. - Sophomore forward Jerica Kuncl scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds left in the first overtime period to give the Mavericks a 2-1 win over the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats Saturday afternoon at the UNO Soccer Field.
Kuncl drove in on from the right side of the goal box and fired a shot past Bearcat netminder Kira Lazenby for her fourth goal of the season. It was Kuncl's first game-winning goal of the year. With the win, UNO improves to 7-4 overall on the year and 6-1 in MIAA play. The Mavericks remain perfect at home this season at 5-0 and extended their home-game winning streak to eight in a row. The loss drops the Bearcats to 7-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the MIAA. Melanie Petersen put UNO up 1-0 on an unassisted goal at 27:28 of the first half. It was her second goal of the season. The Mavs tallied ten shots on the goal in the second half, including four from Nicole Baier, but could not get any past Lazenby. The Bearcats pressured late in the half and in the 81st minute Shannon FitzGerald tied the game with her first goal of the season to force overtime.
Lauren Fox collected her fifth win in goal on the year, improving to 5-1 on the year. She allowed one goal in the game and stopped two shots. The Maverick defense yielded the Bearcats to six shots in the game, tying their season low for the year.

Oct. 3, 2009 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team won their fourth match in a row scoring goals in each half in a 2-0 win over Missouri Southern.
Washburn's
Brittany Tracz scored her second goal of the season and what would turn out to be the game-winner at the 38:00 minute mark on an assist from
Tia Stovall. It was Stovall's sixth of the season. Stovall hit Tracz with a drop pass who then connected from 18 yards out into the right corner of the net by Missouri Southern's Randi Russell.
The Lady Blues' final goal of the night came off a free kick by
Ashley Hynek whose kick was headed by
Leah Talley to
Ashley Taylor to who headed it in the 71st minute putting Washburn up 2-0.
Ashley Klone picked up her 11th shutout win of her career and her second straight collecting three saves while facing seven shots.
Washburn outshot the Lions 12 to 7 and had a 7 to 1 advantage on corner kicks.

Following the weekend match with Nebraska-Omaha, the Lady Blues will return home to face Emporia State in the Turnpike Tussle on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. then face Northwest Missouri for the second time in nine days in Yager Stadium at 6 p.m. on Homecoming Saturday. After the match up with NWMSU, the Lady Blues will travel to Bolivar, Mo., to face Southwest Baptist on Oct. 24 before hosting Truman on Oct. 29. Their final road trip will have matches at Emporia State on Oct. 31 and at Missouri Southern on Nov. 5 before wrapping up the regular season on Nov. 7 against Missouri Western on senior night at 6 p.m.
