Setting the scene . . .
The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up a five-game stretch of non-conference games with Baker on Saturday night in Lee Arena when they will play host to Baker at 7:30 p.m. The Ichabods (4-0) will open MIAA play on Dec. 2 in Omaha and then take on Northwest Missouri on Dec. 5 in Maryville before returning home to face Truman on Dec. 12. The Wildcats (6-2) are coming off a 99-70 exhibition loss at Northwest Missouri on Nov. 24.

Ichabods on Radio . . .
The game will be broadcast live on AM 580 WIBW. The game can also be heard on the internet at www.wusports.com by following the “Live Audio” link under basketball. Bruce Steinbrock will be the play-by-play voice of the Ichabods and former WU quarterback Mark Elliott will be the color analyst.

The Coaches. . .
Washburn Ichabod head basketball coach Bob Chipman is in his 31st season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. For 24 years now Chipman has been the winningest coach in school history and in 2006-07 he became the second winningest coach as a member of the MIAA. Chipman is 666-265 (.715) overall and he has 421 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. Chipman is 17-0 against Baker.
Baker head coach Rick Weaver is in his 25th season as head men's basketball coach of Baker University, where he is the program's all-time win leader with 352 victories. A three-time Heart of America Athletic Conference coach of the year, Weaver graduated in 1972 from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was an All-North Central Conference selection. He received a master's degree in 1977 from Iowa State University while teaching and coaching at Jefferson (Iowa) High School before serving as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky during the 1977-78 season. From 1978 to 1980, Weaver was the head coach at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. He was the head coach from 1980 to 1985 at Wayne State in Wayne, Neb., before coming to Baker. Weaver's 1989 Wildcat squad earned a share of the school's first HAAC basketball title, and his 1996 team set a school record for wins (25) while earning a trip to the NAIA national tournament.

Last time out for the Ichabods . . .
(Nov. 24, 2009) TOPEKA, Kan. -- Playing their second game in as many days, the Washburn Ichabods turned a 1-point lead at the break into a 56 percent shooting exhibition in the second half in an 86-59 win over Kansas Wesleyan.
Washburn fell behind in the first half by as many as nine points in large part to a 29 to 10 advantage on the glass with 12 offensive rebounds for the Coyotes accounting for 15 second chance points as the teams traded the lead five time each in the first 20 minutes of the game.
In the second half, Washburn held the Coyotes without a point until the 16:42 mark of the second half while the Ichabods ripped off a 17-3 run over the first 5:19 of the second half pushing their lead to 49-32. The Coyotes would get no closer than 12 the rest of the game.
De'Andre Washington led the Ichabods with a career-high 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the field. He had 15 points in the first half hitting 6 of 8 attempts from the field including his only 3-point attempt. Virgil Philistin had 14 points off the bench and William McNeill scored 11 points. Willie McCarty scored 12 off the bench to pace Kansas Wesleyan.
After shooting 45 percent in the first half while hitting 14 of 31 attempts, the Ichabods heated up to 14 of 25 shooting in the second half for a 56 percent clip. The Ichabods were also 7 of 13 from the 3-point line in the second stanza after going 1 of 8 in the opening period.

ABOUT Baker . . .
Baker is 6-2 this season winning its last five games not counting an exhibition loss at Northwest Missouri last time out on Nov. 24 in Maryville.
Andre Strozier leads three Wildcats in double figure scoring with a 14.6 points per game average. Also in double figures is Austin Bond at 13.8 ppg and Malcolm Greer at 13.4 ppg. Strozier also leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.

Last time out for the Wilcats . . .
Nov. 24, 2009 -- MARYVILLE, Mo.—Elijah Allen scored a career-high 25 points to lead five Bearcats in double figures and pace Northwest Missouri State to a 99-70 win against Baker Tuesday at Bearcat Arena. Northwest (3-0) has placed five in double figures in all three contests this season.
Allen scored 17 first-half points and finished 10-of-17 from the field. Northwest shot 59 percent for the game (40-of-68) and made 11-of-20 three-pointers. The Bearcats also handed out a season-high 25 assists.
Girod Adams and DeShaun Cooper chipped in 15 points each for the Bearcats. Adams added six rebounds and six assists. Cooper had eight assists, giving him 20 in his first three games.
Baker entered the contest 6-2 overall and a winner of five in a row, but counted tonight's game as an exhibition. Malcolm Greer scored 21 points and Andre Strozier finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
Arunas Simanavicius capped a 15-0, Northwest run in the first half with a steal-and-score followed by a deep three-pointer. The Bearcats held Baker scoreless for more than five minutes and led 33-14 less than six minutes before halftime.
Allen has averaged better than 20 points through three games and is shooting 66 percent from the field. He was 8-of-11 in the first half and finished with five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Jake Petersen came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers for the Bearcats. Northwest's bench outscored Baker's 31-5.

SERIES NOTES . . .
The Ichabods lead the all-time series 50-17-1 against Baker and Saturday's meeting with be the 69th which dates back to the 1905-06 season. The teams have met 12 times since the Ichabods joined the NCAA ranks and the Ichabods have won all 12 meetings and overall the Ichabods have won the last 26 meetings. Head coach Bob Chipman is 17-0 against the Wildcats in his career. The last five games in the series have gone in Washburn's favor by an average of 34.6 points. The Ichabods have won the last three by an average of 42.6 points. Baker last beat the Ichabods, 83-75 in 1954-55. The 107-64 win over Baker on Nov. 25, 2008 was the last time the Ichabods went over the century mark.

Last meeting with Baker . . .
Nov. 25, 2008 -- Head coach Bob Chipman coached his 900th game with the Ichabods Tuesday night and they reached the 100-point mark for the 64th time in school history as they beat Baker 107-64 in Lee Arena.
Washburn (3-0) made 14 3-pointers, one short of the school record and the Ichabods shot 51 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range.
DeAndre Eggins led WU with 20 points with a 6-of-9 performance and 5-of-6 night from 3-point range. Lekheythan Malone was 7-of-11 for 18 points and Darnell Kimble shot 75 percent (6-of-8) for 12 points. Steve Feighny played in five minutes late in the game and made 4-of-5 baskets for nine points.
Mario Scott had nine assists, one short of a career high and four other players had three assists.
Washburn opened the game on a 6-0 run and then the Ichabods pushed the lead to double digits at 14:16 when Nate Daniels' lay-up made the score 19-8. The Ichabods kept their double-figure lead the rest of the way and built it as high as 32 points in the opening half when Scott hit a 3-pointer with 6:49 left in the half.
The Ichabods led 75-43 at halftime and they pushed the lead to 40 with a shot from Paul Byers that made it 89-49. Feighny's jumper at 3:46 gave Washburn its 64th 100-point game in school history and third in the last two years.
Paul Byers led WU with eight rebounds and he blocked two shots to move within eight of third in career history, now with 71.
Brock Entner led Baker with 17 points. The Wildcats (1-4) counted the game as an exhibition.

Ichabod Basketball History . . .
Washburn is 1,364-949 (.682 in 2,313 games) in its 104th season of intercollegiate action. The Ichabods are the ninth-winningest team in NCAA Division II history and the 26th winningest team this decade. The Ichabods are 425-184 since joining the NCAA Division II ranks, which is the most since the 1989-90 season in the MIAA.

Ichabods In Lee Arena . . .
The Ichabods are 334-59 (.848) all-time in Lee Arena - the 26th season of play. The Ichabods recorded a school-best 28-game winning streak from Nov. 19, 1993 to Feb. 8, 1995 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods have won 14 straight regular season non-conference home games and 37 of their last 40 regular season non-conference games home.

Up Next . . .
Washburn will open MIAA play on Dec. 2 at Nebraska-Omaha. Washburn will then take on Northwest Missouri on Dec. 5 in Maryville and then return home to take on Truman on Dec. 12 before returning to Las Vegas for the second time this season to face Western Washington on Dec. 17 and Central Washington on Dec. 18 in the Great Western Shootout. Both games will start at 5 p.m. CST.
