Setting the scene . . .
The Washburn Ichabods return for their first MIAA home game of the season when they will play host to Truman on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena. The Ichabods (5-2, 0-2 MIAA) will be looking to snap a two-game slide while the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1 MIAA) will be looking for their second straight conference win. Washburn will then take part in the Great Western Shootout in Las Vegas when they will take on Western Washington on Dec. 17 and Central Washington the following day with both games starting at 5 p.m. CST before returning to MIAA play against Missouri Western on Dec. 28 in Topeka.

Ichabods on Radio . . .
The game will be broadcast live on AM 580 WIBW. The game can also be heard on the internet at www.wusports.com by following the “Live Audio” link under basketball. Bruce Steinbrock will be the play-by-play voice of the Ichabods and former WU quarterback Mark Elliott will be the color analyst.

The Coaches. . .
Washburn Ichabod head basketball coach Bob Chipman is in his 31st season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. For 24 years now Chipman has been the winningest coach in school history and in 2006-07 he became the second winningest coach as a member of the MIAA. Chipman is 667-266 (.716) overall and he has 421 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. Chipman is 33-12 against Truman.
Truman head coach Jack Schrader is in his 15th season as head coach of the Bulldogs.  He has an overall record of 155-237.  Schrader has guided two Bulldog team to the NCAA Division II tournament.  The 1998-99 team finished their season at the NCAA Final Four, while the 2005-06 team was a participant in the NCAA South Central regional.

Last time out for the Ichabods . . .
(Dec. 5, 2009) MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods shot 52 percent from the field in the second half coming up short for a seven-point halftime deficit but it was not enough as the Ichabods fell 81-73 at Northwest Missouri. The Ichabods will be back in action on Saturday when they will play host to Truman at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 in Lee Arena.
In the opening half, the Ichabods led by five at 22-17 with 7:25 to play in the period but the Bearcats went on an 18 to 6 run the remainder of the first half taking a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
The Bearcats stretched their lead to as many as nine in the opening minutes of the second half at 42-33 after a pair of free throws. The Ichabods cut into the Bearcat lead at 44-40 on a Logan Stutz fastbreak lay up with 15:08 to play in the game. The Bearcats went on a 8-0 run to go up by 12 at 52-40 with 12:52 remaining.
The Ichabods returned with a run of their own as Washburn cut the lead down to two at 58-56 with 9:31 on a William McNeill layup but the Ichabods would get no closer as the Bearcats would push the lead to as many as 12 in the second half.
McNeill led the Ichabods with a career high 21 on 9 of 11 shooting. He scored five points in the first half. De'Andre Washington scored 13 and Logan Stutz had 10.
Edriss Floyd had 20 to pace the Bearcat attack hitting 5 of 8 3-point attempts.
Washburn outshot the Bearcats in the game hitting 26 of 57 from the field while Northwest was 23 of 52. Northwest did hit 8 of 19 3-point attempts while Washburn was 3 of 13. The Ichabods also struggled at the free throw line going 18 of 29 while the host Bearcats were 27 of 34.
Washburn held a 40 to 32 advantage on the glass with 14 offensive rebounds leading to 16 second chance points for the Ichabods. The Ichabods committed a season-high 22 turnovers leading to 25 points for the Bearcats. The teams combined for 50 fouls with Northwest Missouri being called for 26.

About Truman . . .
Truman is 2-4 this season and 1-1 in the MIAA after halting a four-game losing streak topping Pittsburg State at home 77-63. Truman has a non-conference game scheduled for Wedensday, Dec. 9 against Hannibal-LaGragne in Kirksville. The Bulldogs won their first game of the season on Nov. 16 topping Culver-Stockton 86-68 before losing their next four games. Alex Henderson has led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of the last three games averaging 15.1 ppg in the last three games. For the season, he is averaging 11.7 ppg. Vesko Filchev leads four Bulldogs in double-digit scoring with 12.5 ppg as well as a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game. Stefan Garrison (10.8 ppg) and Tom Norton (10.3 ppg) are also in reaching double figure averages per game. Filchev also is averaging 2.0 blocks per game.
The Bulldogs are averaging 70.2 ppg while allowing 78.2 ppg. Opponents are shooting 47 percent from the field against Truman while the Bulldogs are hitting 41 percent of their attempts. Truman has lost their last 12 games with their last victory away from Pershing Arena coming on Feb. 20, 2008 at Missouri Western.

Last time out for the Bulldogs (prior to Wednesday's game with Hannibal-LaGrange). . .
(Dec. 5, 2009) A dominating second half performance lifted the Truman Men's Basketball team to a 77-63 victory over Pittsburg State in the MIAA home opener on Saturday.  The Bulldogs scored 47 second-half points to erase an 11-point first half deficit.
After taking a four-point lead into the locker room, the Gorillas expanded their margin up to seven in the early going before Truman scored seven straight to knot the game at 37 apiece.
Alex Henderson dropped in the second three-pointer of the half to give the Bulldogs the lead 41-40 with 15:53 left to play and hit another one 40 seconds later to put the Bulldogs up for good.
The Bulldogs went on a 18-4 run during the next five minutes to expand their lead to 13 points over the visiting Gorillas.  Henderson capped off the run with two more of his game-high 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half.
The Gorillas cut the lead to eight with 5:15 left but Ethan Freeman converted on a pair of free throws to push the margin back to double-digits where it would stay till the final buzzer.
Truman shot 50% in the second half and were 4-of-7 from downtown while also making 75% (15-of-20) of their free throw attempts.
Stefan Garrison added 15 points and a career high eight rebounds while Norton dropped in 13.
Truman dominated the boards by a 42-30 margin with Ethan Freeman pulling down eight and Vesko Filchev grabbing nine.
Rodney Grace paced the Gorillas with 16 points.
The 'Dogs improve to 2-4 overall and even their record conference record at 1-1.  Pittsburg State falls to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA.

Series Notes . . .

Saturday's meeting will be the 52nd between the two schools with Washburn holding a 35-16 lead in the series. The Ichabods have won the last five meetings by an average score of 66-55. The series dates back to 1956-57 and the two have played each other every year since 1989-90. Two of the lowest combined scoring games in WU history came against Truman recently. On January 13, 2007, the Bulldogs won 60-45 as they combined for 105 points, the second lowest scoring output since WU joined NCAA II in 1989-90. On January 19, 2008 they scored 109 points in a 59-50 WU win. That was the third lowest scoring game in DII history for WU. Washburn is 12-7 against the Bulldogs on the road and 26-9 in MIAA contests against TSU in Lee Arena. Washburn has won the last three meetings with the Bulldogs in Topeka

Last meeting with Truman . . .
Feb. 4, 2009 -- TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods won their third straight game and their fifth in a row over Truman in a 68-50 win over the Bulldogs Wednesday night in Lee Arena.
The Ichabods fell behind 8-2 to Truman (6-5, 1-13 MIAA) as the Bulldogs and held the lead up until a 3-pointer by Steve Feighny which put Washburn up 16-15 with 11:29 to play in the first half. Truman responded with back-to-back layups and a 3-pointer by of their own regaining the lead while stretching it to a 22-17 margin. The Bulldogs pulled out to a 26-19 lead with 4:46 to play in the half, before Washburn held Truman without a field goal for the final 4:46 of the half while going on a 7-0 run and took the lead on a dunk by Darnell Kimble with 1:59 to play in the stanza.
The Ichabods kept the pressure on the Bulldogs holding Truman without a field goal until the 13:26 mark of the second half totaling more than 10 minutes without a point from the field when Vesko Filchev broke the drought with 13:26 to play in the game and Washburn holding a 34-31 lead.
Washburn put together a 20-9 run over the next six minutes to take a 57-40 lead. Truman would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
DeAndre Eggins took game-high honors with 13 points. Kimble recorded his second double double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Covier Carter also had 10 points. Brandon Griffin led Truman with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Ichabods were 22 of 55 for the game (.400) while Truman was 18 of 48 (.375). Washburn also held a 43 to 28 advantage on the glass.

Ichabod Basketball History . . .
Washburn is 1,365-951 (.682 in 2,316 games) in its 104th season of intercollegiate action. The Ichabods are the ninth-winningest team in NCAA Division II history and the 26th winningest team this decade. The Ichabods are 426-184 since joining the NCAA Division II ranks, which is the most since the 1989-90 season in the MIAA.

Ichabods In Lee Arena . . .

The Ichabods are 335-59 (.848) all-time in Lee Arena - the 26th season of play. The Ichabods recorded a school-best 28-game winning streak from Nov. 19, 1993 to Feb. 8, 1995 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods have won 15 straight regular season non-conference home games and 38 of their last 41 regular season non-conference games home.

Up Next . . .

Washburn will return to Las Vegas for the second time this season to face Western Washington on Dec. 17 and Central Washington on Dec. 18 in the Great Western Shootout. Both games will start at 5 p.m. CST. After Christmas break, the Ichabods will return to MIAA play when they will play host to Missouri Western on Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena. The game will start a slate of four games in nine days as they will have road contests at Fort Hays State on Dec. 30, Central Missouri on Jan. 2 and Southwest Baptist on Jan. 5 before facing Missouri Southern on Jan. 9 in Topeka.
