Ichabods' 16-0 run in second half sends WU past Missouri Southern

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods trailed Missouri Southern 61-49 with 12:23 to play and used a 16-0 spurt over three-plus minutes to take a 65-61 lead and overcame a Lion comeback attempt taking a 93-86 win in Lee Arena. Washburn (14-11, 10-8 MIAA) will take on Pittsburg State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in John Lance Arena.

During the run, Washburn's Paul Byers started the comeback with a 3-pointer and then converted a conventional 3-point play pulling Washburn within one at 61-60 with 9:42 to play. After Washburn pushed the lead to as many as six at 69-63, the Lions (17-10, 7-10 MIAA) scored seven unanswered points to take a 70-69 lead on a 3-pointer by Jason Adams. The Ichabods took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by James Williams and the LIons would get no closer than three points at 75-72 the rest of the way.

Washburn trailed at the break 43-33 behind the hot shooting of the Lions' Skyler Bowlin. In the opening half, he was 6 of 7 from the field including hitting all six 3-point attempts recording 18 points. The Lions were hit 50 percent of their shots going 15 of 30 from the field including 8 of 10 from 3-point range. Washburn was 12 of 27 from the field and 2 of 12 from downtown.

Lekheythan Malone scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half. He tied for team-high honors with Nate Daniels who recorded a career-high for the second straight game following up his previous high of 15 he scored against Southwest Baptist with 18 against the Lions. Daniels scored 12 in the second half and Byers scored all 12 of his points in the second half.

Bowlin finished with 28 points on 10 of 14 shooting with an 8 of 11 performance from 3-point range. Mariun Price scored 18 points, Adams finished with 14 and DaRell Crittendown had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Washburn held a 34 to 28 advantage on the glass and the Ichabods bench outscored the Lions' reserves 36 to 19.
