EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues split a pair of games at the first day of the Emporia State Invitational topping Truman 3-0 before falling to Tarleton State 4-3.  Washburn (10-16) will be back in action on Saturday.

Washburn scored a run in the top of the first as Dani White hit a solo home run, her 36th of her career. Neither team would score until the Lady Blues added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Lindsey Himple doubled driving in one and White singled driving in another and pitcher Samantha Farris completed the shutout allowing four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Tarleton State scored three runs in the bottom of the third, but Washburn knotted the game with three in the top of the fourth inning. Tish Williams led off the inning with a homer, her 37th of her Washburn career, one shy of the school record of 38 held by Brooke DeVader. White doubled to left driving in a run and Ashley Podschun doubled to right driving in the final run for Washburn.
