JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues went 3-2 at the Missouri Southern/Teri Mathis Memorial Tournament. Washburn will be back in action on March 11 against Benedictine at the Washburn Softball Complex at 3 p.m.
The Lady Blues opened the tournament with a 6-4 loss to defending NAIA National Champions Oklahoma City. Washburn stranded seven base runners in the game as the Stars took advantage of a Lady Blue error to score four unearned runs.
Against Pittsburg State in a 6-4 win on Friday, the Lady Blues used a three run fourth inning leading to the 6-3 win.
Kayla Long picked up the complete-game win allowing three earned runs.
Ashley Podschun and
Whitney Tapp each had three hits in the game.
In a 12-5 win to wrap up Friday's action against Drury, Washburn rallied from a 3-1 first inning deficit to score three in the second and four in the third for the win. Washburn had 12 hits with
Tish Williams going 4 for 5 with four runs scored and 5 RBI hitting a home run, a triple and two singles.
Megan Kimerer picked up the win.
On Saturday, Washburn topped Missouri Science and Technology in a 1-0 win, the Lady Blues'
Tish Williams scored the only run of the game in the first inning. After leading off the game with a double, she scored on an
Ashley Podschun single.
Samantha Farris picked up the complete game shutout with four strikeouts while allowing two hits.
Washburn wrapped up play with a 6-4 loss to Cameron. Washburn stranded eight base runners in the loss.
Lindsey Himpel had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Lady Blues attack.
