Lady Blues split with Northwest Missouri on softball diamond

MARYVILLE, Mo.  -- The Washburn Lady Blues split an MIAA doubleheader with Northwest Missouri falling 1-0 in the opener while rebounding to win a run-rule 12-2 game in the nightcap behind three home runs by Dani White tying a school single-game record. Washburn (14-21, 1-3 MIAA) will be back in action on Saturday when the face Nebraska-Omaha on the road.

Game 1 - Northwest Missouri 1, Washburn 0

The teams combined for eight hits with each team recording four as the Bearcats won the opener 1-0. The Bearcats pushed the lone run of the game across in the bottom of the sixth inning on a lead off home run. The Lady Blues stranded six baserunners in the loss. Samantha Farris took the loss allowing the one earned run while striking out four.

Game 2 - Washburn 12, Northwest Missouri 2 (6 innings)
In the second game, Dani White tied a school record by smashing three home runs and driving in five runs in the run-rulled game. Her final home run of the afternoon was her 40th of her career. She was the first Lady Blue to hit three in a single game since Tish Williams hit three against Park last season. Washburn scored three in the first inning and two more in the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Williams hit her 41st home run of her career to lead off the game and White followed up with her first homer of the game in the inning. Ashley Podschun added a home run on the next Lady Blues' at bat after White as Washburn hit a total of three in the first inning. White hit her second home run in the fourth inning driving in Williams who singled to the shortstop. After gonig scoreless in the fifth inning, Washburn added five more in the fifth. After Williams led off the inning with a double, White homered again. Maggie West hit a three-run homer, her third of the season.
Farris picked up the win allowing two earned runs.
In total, the Lady Blues hit six home runs which tied a school record from when they hit six on April 15, 2006 against Minnesota State-Mankato.
