Setting the scene . . .
The Washburn Ichabods (7-4, 1-3 MIAA) will wrap up a three-game road trip against nationally-ranked teams when they travel to Bolivar, Mo., Tuesday night to face the No. 11-ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcats (13-2, 4-1 MIAA). SBU is sporting the second-longest home court winning streak in Division II at 37 games and have not lost at the Meyer Sports Center since a Feb. 12, 2007 loss to Fort Hays State.
  The Ichabods will return home on Saturday to face Missouri Southern in the friendly confines of Lee Arena with start time slated for 7:30 p.m.

Ichabods on Radio . . .
Ichabod games will be broadcast live on AM 580 WIBW. The game can also be heard on the internet at www.wusports.com by following the “Live Audio” link under basketball. Bruce Steinbrock will be the play-by-play voice of the Ichabods and former WU quarterback Mark Elliott will be the color analyst. Pregame show starts 15 minutes prior to tip.

The Coaches. . .
Washburn Ichabod head basketball coach Bob Chipman is in his 31st season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. For 24 years now Chipman has been the winningest coach in school history and in 2006-07 he became the second winningest coach as a member of the MIAA. Chipman is 669-270 (.716) overall and he has 421 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. Chipman is 23-19 against the Mules.
Bearcat head coach Jeff Guiot is in his sixth season in Bolivar, where he has led SBU to a 120-45 (.726) record. Guiot has a 338-138 record overall, and has never had a losing season in any season during his fifteen-year career. Guiot has won 20 games ten times, and has won eight conference titles, including three of the last four MIAA regular season championships while at SBU.

Last time out for the Ichabods . . .
(Jan. 2, 2010) WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Washburn's De'Andre Washington recorded his fourth double double in the last five games but it wasn't enough as the Ichabods led the No. 1-ranked Central Missouri Mules with less than six minutes to go before falling 77-71. The Ichabods will be back in action on Tuesday wrapping up a three-game road trip all against nationally-ranked teams when they will face Southwest Baptist.
Washburn (7-6, 1-5 MIAA) led by one at 56-55 before the Mules' Bryce Brunz hit a free throw tying the score for the 11th tie score of the game. The Mules (12-0, 5-0 MIAA) would push the lead to as many as nine at 74-65 with 26 seconds to play before back-to-back 3-pointers by Washington and Virgil Philistin trimmed the lead to five with four seconds to play but would get not closer  the Mules hit their last free throw of the afternoon.
The Ichabods trailed by six at the break after shooting 47 percent from the field hitting 14of 30 shots from the field. Washburn led by as many as seven in the opening stanza at 29-22 on a 3-pointer by Maurice Colter with 6:31 to play.
Washington finished with 26 points, his second-best output of the season, with 12 rebounds while tying a career-high with six assists playing 39 minutes. He was the only Ichabod to reach double figures. Bryce Simons scored a career-high nine points. Philistin had nine points as well off the bench for Washburn.
Sanjay Watts scored 28 points with 14 rebounds to pace the Mules. Alex Moosmann scored 20 with eight assists.
Washburn finished 27 of 64 from the field for a 42 percent average while the Mules were 24 of 48 hitting half of their attempts. The Ichabods were 10 of 15 from the free throw line while Central Missouri finished 24 of 49 outscoring the Ichabods by 14.
The Ichabods were outrebounded 36 to 34 but did have 14 offensive rebounds leading to 16 second chance points. Washington had six offensive boards. The Ichabods also recorded a season low of five turnovers.

About Southwest Baptist . . .
Southwest Baptist is 13-2 on the season and 4-1 in MIAA play and ranked #11 in the nation. They are scoring 90.6 points per game while only allowing 76.5 points per game. They have the MIAA's leading scorer in Matt Rogers who is averaging 23.2 points per game along with 7.8 rebounds per game. He is joined inside by Kurtis Koenig who is averaging 13.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. SBU has won 37 straight games in the Meyer Sports Center, which is the second-longest streak in Division II. The Bearcats have not lost at home since a 74-64 loss to Fort Hays State on Feb. 12, 2007.

Last time out for the Bearcats . . .
(Jan. 2, 2010) BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats pulled away down the stretch to top the Emporia State Hornets 75-62.
Tomas Brock led the Bearcats (13-2, 4-1 MIAA) with 18 points, one of four SBU players in double digits. Kurt Koenig had 17 points, Matt Rogers had 14 and Ryan Dougherty had 12. Tristan Steele had 10 rebounds to lead the 'Cats.
Adam Holthaus led the Hornets (6-7, 2-4 MIAA) with 20 points while Lamar Wilbern added 15 points.
SBU led by one 33-32 at the half before outscoring the Hornets (6-7, 2-4 MIAA) 42-30 in the second frame. SBU made eight of 22 from three point range and shot 46 percent from the field. The Bearcats outrebounded the Hornets 41-30.

Series notes with Southwest Baptist . . .
Tuesday's meeting is the 42nd meeting between Washburn and Southwest Baptist with the Ichabods leading the all-time series 27-14. Washburn has won 16 of the last 22 games and two of the last three splitting the two match ups last season. Washburn is 22-9 against SBU in MIAA games. The series is the least-played matchup for Washburn against other MIAA teams with 41 games played.

Last meeting with Southwest Baptist . . .
(Feb. 14, 2009) -- BOLIVAR, Mo. -- For the second straight game, the Washburn Ichabods pushed a top 10 opponent on their home court with a second half rally, but came up short as they fell 86-84 to No. 5 Southwest Baptist.
In the second half, Washburn pulled with six with 12:33 to play at 62-56, but a 3-pointer and a transition lay up by the Bearcats stretched the lead back to 11 with 11:18 to play. Washburn pulled within five at 67-62 with 9:37 to play.
Nate Daniels nailed a 3-pointer to cut the score to 67-65, but SBU hit one of their own stretching the lead back to five with 8:11 left. Following a pair of free throws by Daniels and a lay up by Eggins, Washburn trailed by four with 6:36 to play. Washburn's Paul Byers hit a 3-pointer from about 26 feet to bring the Ichabods to 73-72 with 5:47 to go. Byers hit another on the Ichabods' next possession from the corner with 4:49 to play giving Washburn its first lead of the game at 75-73 with 4:45 to go following an SBU timeout.
After a lay up by Washburn's Byers, SBU responded with a 3-pointer by Matt Rogers knotting the score at 77-all with 3:48 to play in the game.
A lay up by James Williams gave Washburn a 79-77 lead with 3:35 to go and Tomas Brock hit one of two free throws with 3:30 to go pulling SBU within one.After a Washburn missed jumper on offense, D'Ante Harris hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key putting SBU up 81-79 with 2:59 to play in the game. Harris would hit another 3-pointer putting the Bearcats up by five, but with 1:05 to go, Darnell Kimble scored his 17th point of the game on a lay up pulling Washburn back to within three at 84-81.
Washburn forced a shot clock violation and took possession with 28.9 seconds to go. Daniels' lay up with 19 seconds to play putting the Ichabods down one at 84-83. Nick Kovacevich was fouled and went to the line. After connecting on the first attempt with 13.5 seconds remaining, he hit both putting SBU up three at 86-83.
Eggins was fouled on a two-point attempt with 5.5 just behind the arc fouling out Matt Rogers. Eggins hit the first and after intentionally missing the second, WU regained the possession with 2.5 seconds left. Eggins 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed and Lekehthan Malone's follow-up dunk was just after the buzzer.
The Ichabods trailed 49-38 at the break as Brandon Clemons hit his second of two 3-pointers in the the first half. Washburn was 11 of 30 from the field hitting 37 percent while the Bearcats hit 14 of 33. The Ichabods hit 12 of 14 free throw attempts and DeAndre Eggins led the Ichabods with eight points in the frame.
Eggins led the Ichabods with 18 points and Byers finished with 17 coming off the bench hitting 7 of 10 from the field. Daniels finished with 13 points including three 3-pointers.
Kovacevich led five Bearcats in doublefigures with 17 points.
Washburn was 28 of 64 for the game and 17 of 34 in the second half. The Bearcats finished 27 of 53 while going 13 of 20 in the second half and 6 of 13 from 3-point range.

Washburn is 1,367-955 (.682 in 2,322 games) in its 104th season of intercollegiate action. The Ichabods are the ninth-winningest team in NCAA Division II history and the 26th winningest team this decade. The Ichabods are 428-186 since joining the NCAA Division II ranks, which is the most since the 1989-90 season in the MIAA.

Ichabods In Lee Arena . . .
The Ichabods are 336-60 (.848) all-time in Lee Arena - the 26th season of play. The Ichabods recorded a school-best 28-game winning streak from Nov. 19, 1993 to Feb. 8, 1995 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods have won 15 straight regular season non-conference home games and 38 of their last 41 regular season non-conference games home.

Up Next . . .
The Ichabods will play host to Missouri Southern on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena playing their first home game since a Dec. 30 contest with Missouri Western. The Ichabods will return to the road to face Pittsburg State on Jan. 13 before finishing up the regular season with seven of their next 11 games at home beginning with a three-game home stand against Emporia State on Jan. 16 wrapping up the first half of the conference slate.
