Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues will play a pair of road games this week facing Emporia State in the soccer version of the Turnpike Tussle on Thursday and then face the Truman Bulldogs on Saturday in Kirksville at 12 p.m. The Lady Blues are coming off a 1-1 week where they fell to Missouri Western 2-1 and then blanked Northwest Missouri 3-0 last time out on Oct. 23.
About Emporia State
Emporia State notes: The Hornets are 1-8-5 this season and 1-7-4 in conference play. The Hornets have had three straight double overtime ties.
About the coach: Jim Schneiderhahn is 9-74-8 in his fifth year at ESU and 48-118-14 in his tenth year as a head coach. He came to ESU after serving as an assistant coach at Tulane University. He was the head coach at Benedictine from 2000-04. He holds a United State Soccer Federation (USSF) National “A” Coaching License.

Last meeting with Emporia State: Sept. 25, 2010 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Lady Blues rallied for two late goals to beat Emporia State 2-1 on Saturday night at Yager Stadium. Washburn scored two goals in 17 seconds, a school-record, to extend their winning streak over the Hornets to 11 games. Emporia State (0-6-1, 0-5-0 MIAA) struck first with an unassisted goal from Lauren Cathey in the 34th minute. She struck the shot from 30 yards out and beat Lady Blues keeper
Ashley Klone to the far post. Just when it looked like Washburn's 10-game winning streak over ESU would come to an end
Markie Gallagher tied the game with a blast from 30 yards out to the far post. The Lady Blues quickly stole possession and Gallagher sent a ball through to a racing
Leah Talley who beat the keeper to the near post to give Washburn the 2-1 lead.
Klone made three saves in net for the Lady Blues (3-3-1, 3-2-0 MIAA), while ESU's Natalie Hoernig made two saves.
Last time out for Emporia State: October 24, 2010 -- The Emporia State soccer team had only two shots on goal but for 87 minutes they led the MIAA's second place team. ESU only had six shots total, but ESU keeper's combined for ten saves in the 1-1 tie. ESU got the goal scoring going in the 24th minute as Hannah Carlson connected with Jessica Decker on a cross to give ESU the 1-0 lead. Olivia Hayes would not answer for the Bulldogs until the 87th minute when she took a pass from Kelsey Twellman to equalize. Natalie Hoernig had four saves while Nikki Schmitz added six saves for ESU.
About Truman State
Truman State notes: The Bearcats are 2-8-3 (2-7-2 MIAA) after falling to No. 2-ranked Central Missouri 4-0 last time out on Oct. 16.

Last meeting with Truman: Sept. 30, 2010 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues scored first and held the No. 22-ranked Truman Bulldogs 1-1 in double overtime tie Thursday night in Yager Stadium. Washburn will be back in action Saturday at Southwest Baptist.
The Lady Blues (3-3-2, 3-2-1 MIAA) drew first blood in the 31st minute as
Megan Buckley scored her first collegiate goal from 43 yards out past Truman's Jayne Grisham into the upper right hand corner of the net. However Truman's Megan Buri netted her second goal of the season recording the equalizer in the 38th minute from 30 yards out as the teams would enter the break tied at 1-1.
Neither team would score the remainder of the regulation period as the Bulldogs continued to pressure the Lady Blues in the second half outshooting Washburn 15 to 0 in the second half. In the first extra frame, the Bulldogs outshot the Lady Blues 3 to 1 while adding another shot in the second overtime period.

Ashley Klone recorded 10 saves in net for Washburn while facing a total of 27 shots allowing the first half goal. Buckley had two shots and the lone shot on goal for the Lady Blues. Olivia Hayes paced the Bulldog offense with seven shots overall with three on goal. Buri recorded six shots with four on goal.
Last time out for Truman: EMPORIA, Kan. – Sophomore Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) scored a game-tying goal in the 88th minute to allow the Truman women's soccer team to stave off an upset by Emporia State, as the Bulldogs and Hornets played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs (8-2-5, 7-1-5 MIAA) fell behind midway through the first half when ESU's Jessica Decker scored to put the Hornets ahead, 1-0. Truman had multiple chances to tie, outshooting ESU, 30-6 for the match and 11-2 on goal, before finally breaking through with the equalizer, as Hayes tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season off a Kelsey Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) assist to force extra time with three minutes to play. However, neither team could find the netting in the extra 20 minutes, leading Truman to its fifth draw of the season – all in conference play. The five ties on the season equals the most for the Truman program since 1996 and most ever for the Bulldogs since MIAA play began in 1999.

Washburn (4-7-3, 4-6-2 MIAA) outshot the Bearcats (2-9-4, 2-8-3 MIAA) 13 to 3 holding a 12 to 0 advantage in the second half going with a strong southern breeze.

Washburn is 75-58-25 (.560) all-time in its eighth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 52-44-18 (.537). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 36-22-11 and they are 32-31-11 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 7-5-3.
